Wont be able to check the accuracy since my humidor is currently seasoning but the calculator is simple and easy to use. The layout looks good... I give it two thumbs up!
I think I like it. Is there a way to account for drawers and/or shelves such as in a wineador? I just estimated how much space they took in each measurment and subtracted, but maybe a drawer/shelf option would be helpful...? Otherwise very useful.
Nice! I've always just used the 7 cubic inches/cigar rule of thumb, which admittedly has its limitations.
I assume one inputs the outside dimensions of the humidor. Does your calculator take the thickness of the humidor top, bottom, and sides into account?
Unfortunately, after repeated attempts to come up with a formula to account for drawers/shelves/dividers etc. we decided it just wasn't feasible. Well really, the mathematician we hired to come up with this ridiculous formula said it wasn't.Quote:

Really like the calculator. One question I had was is the calculator determining the volume of the cigars ((pi*(rg/4)^2)*length) and dividing that into the volume of the humidor (L*W*H) or is it treating the cigars as essentially tiny boxes (box pressed?) ((rg^2)*length) to determine number that could fit into the humidor? I ask because the tiny spaces between each cigar aren't usable but may be throwing off the number the calculator is giving us. I hope that makes sense; I may or may not have needed out a bit and overthought/overcomplicated this.

As a suggestion, I would add an option to let the user input a % dedicated to free air space in the humidor. Essentially if I wanted to leave 15% of the space free for air circulation the calculator would output the number of cigars taking free air space into account. Granted this is a relatively easy calculation I could do before hand, but it should be just as easy to incorporate into the calculator for everyone.
As an aside, I would think it wouldn't be terribly hard to calculate for rough capacity lost due to dividers/drawers but would require the user to input additional variables for the calculator.
That's an interesting idea! I will run it by the developer and see if that is possible. And you are not over-thinking it at all, the formula accounts for round cigars, and therefore accounts for the tiny amounts of space left in between each cigar.Quote:

While we're thinking of additional parameters for this, how about this idea...How about breaking down accountability for the different vitolas people will be storing? Have all the various vitolas listed with a box that you can put the percentage of those sizes you anticipate having on hand. Such as 10% robusto; 20% lancero; 15% churchill etc. That way the tool can tell you how many of each vitola you can fit in the humi. And, maybe have it show a chart of how you will need to organize them in order to make them all fit...:devilish:Quote:

Very nice Kayla. How about an option to enter the amount and dimensions of drawers and give results from there as alot use drawers in their humidors/wineadors/cooladors.

Yea I think when accounting for tray's it would be a much rougher output, essentially how much volume is reduced by the material of the tray, and the impact that has on storage capacity. Like you said, where a tray or divider is mounted is going to play a role in how many cigars you'll ultimately be able to fit in your humidor.
