    Ceramic pipe repair

I recently picked up my first ceramic estate pipe, a Goedewaagan Baronite double walled pipe made in Holland. Hopefully I don't break the damn thing while I'm cleaning it.

The material used to hold the tenon into the shank has disintegrated. From what I can tell it appears to have been cork. It looks to me like it's supposed to be a push pull type and that the cork gasket would have remained on the tenon, not in the shank (this is a guess). I'm going to start cleaning it up and my plan is to drill a cork and shave it to fit, but I'm curious if anyone may know if this is actually how this pipe was originally designed.

I did find this article where the restorer had the same problem http://rebornpipes.com/2012/09/03/go...e-restemmed-2/. He opted to drill and tap the stem to fit a Delrin push pull tenon. I'm not 100% against going that route, but I think I would rather forgo trying to drill and tap the stem.

    Here are a few pics:

You can buy thin sheets of real cork meant for woodwind instrument repair.

They can be found on ebay fer sure, and probably amazon too.

After cleaning it up and seeing how everything fits together, I think I have a pretty good idea of how I'm going to go about the repair. I'll show pics when I'm done.

Very nice and interesting pipe. Good luck. Looking forward to seeing the fix and finished product.

Never seen a pipe like that, but it sure is beautiful! Love the little village/windmill scene on it!

Can't wait to hear how it smokes.

A trip to ACE, $0.37 later, and here is the fix.

Ashton Flake Medallions for the first bowl. Not a bad smoker either.
