    Broken Calabash

Broken in the middle. I'm not sure what this wooden part of the shank is called, but the male threads broke off almost flush in the gourd side of the pipe. How would you fix it? I am inclined to glue the wooden part back to the shank and forget about ever screwing it off again. I'm afraid that if I glued the male threaded portion of the wood part back to the wooden piece that it would never be strong enough to withstand being screwed into the shank.
The vulcanite stem juncture is fine; it is not damaged.

This is tragic, I don't think you should be allowed to post such graphic photos on a family-friendly forum!

Not sure how to fix it, I'll wait for the experts to chime in.

My GOD that's tragic, but I'm sure Norwood will make like it never happened. Trust me, never let go of a good Cali! I sold one 20 years ago that might have weighed 2 ounces. I still regret it.

    Thanks to MOO!

I mailed it to Norwood's this morning. Can you believe someone mailed that to me in a bubble-wrap envelope?

I've heard good things about Norwoods. Looking forward to seeing repaired pics here in about a week or two.

Norwood's is the best thing you could have done for your pipe. It will be possible you have your pipe back by Friday or Saturday. They are fast

Sad to say, yes I can believe someone mailed that in an envelope. I hope at least they are paying for the repairs.

I got it back from Norwood's Pipe Repair and it's as good as new. And they are fast! Turnaround in about a week!

Also had some work done on some other pipes while I was at it:

The top one had a churchwarden stem fitted to it. The next one down had a stem put on it. The second one up from the bottom had a push-pull fitting installed. The bottom one's shank broke as they were working on it; they repaired it with a Sterling silver band at no charge.
