    Rocky Patel The Edge Review

    3/23/2014

    Cigar: Rocky Patel The Edge
    Size: Toro, 6.0”x52
    MSRP: $6.30
    Strength: Medium-Full
    Wrapper: Corojo
    Origin: Honduras

Prelight: The Edge has a smooth golden-brown corojo wrapper with minimal veins. A familiar floral aroma comes off the wrapper while the foot smells like caramel and cocoa. A very woody draw is perfect; not too tight or too loose.

1/3: The first third is hardly spicy at all. There is a dried fruit flavor that begins ambiguous but develops into a clear apricot taste. There is little smoke being produced between draws, which makes this cigar good for lounges or around non-smokers. The burn is even leaving a bright white ash that hangs on tightly through the full third.

2/3: The flavor transitions between thirds – almost on cue – are elegant and subtle, allowing the flavors to merge for just a few puffs before coming into their own. The second third is wood, like the other RPs I’ve had, yet The Edge is more of an oak flavor than cedar.

3/3: After another seamless transition, hay dominates the profile. I am pleased with the smoothness of this supposed medium-full cigar. Coffee is also present during the final third and nearly no nic-kick is evident by the end of the 75 minute smoke session.

Overall: For being $4 cheaper than the Platinum, this cigar is the front-runner of my RP reviews. Smooth, flavorful and beautiful, I will definitely be picking up a fiver so that I have more in the humidor for myself and guests. The construction was nearly perfect and the multiple flavor profiles which develop during the smoke were well received.
To smoke is human; to smoke cigars, divine.

Thanks for resurrecting your reviews, Layne. The Corojo Edge is nice, but my fave of this line is the Habano (blue label).
You oughta know not to stand by the window, somebody see you up there.
