Forever Stems Update
I received this from Log Cabin Pipe Works today regarding availability of Forever Stems:
We will begin opening our website for orders on Sunday, January 8th 2017. Due to the enormous amount of orders we are limiting each order to 3 stems and allowing 3 weeks to ship as all stems are made to order. Your patience is appreciated.
Thank you,
Patricia Morgan
If you're unfamiliar with their stems here's the website: Lucite Stems - Old Log Cabin Pipe Works

I'll have to invest in one of those things some day, although it's a bit counterintuitive to me to put a $23 stem on a $3.5 cob
You oughta know not to stand by the window, somebody see you up there.

It's also not an 'investment'. It's just a purchase....

For me, anything over $20 is an investment

Vermont freehand sells some good lucite stems for under 5 bucks a piece that fit cobs (or at least the ones I got did).

Acrylic Stems ? Vermont Freehand
I don't think the middle one will fit the cob shanks, but I suspect the other two do. I use em on my cobs and I'm happy with them.

I wouldn't be averse to spinning a drill on a cob to make it fit.

3/8" would be bigger than the shank could feasible be bored out to. the 5/16 it fine though, basically stock. Unless your replace the shank with some kinda fancy wood and bore that out to 3/8"!

If I had only one cob I wouldn't spend the money for one of these stems, but I have dozens, (don't ask why), and the first thing I do when I get a new filtered cob is toss the original stem. So, I have a box full of cobs with no stems and a couple of Forever stems which are switched from pipe to pipe. I love the broad, flat mouthpiece on these stems, perfect for a gentleman of my advanced years whose teeth are not as firmly rooted as they once were.
