Latakia suggestions
Hi guys!
I'm having trouble finding a good latakia blend that is also available.
Right now, I'm leaning toward more latakia/virginia, and less oriental-forward.
For example, I just opened a tin of Dunhill Standard Mixture. I wanted it to have much more of a latakia smokiness.
C&D blends tend to be bitey or feel dry to me
My favorites are:
Lancer's Slices
Penzance
Frog Morton
Nightcap is good also
Want to try but can't find in stock:
Ten to Midnight
Out of stock, or too expensive:
Lancer's Slices
Penzanace
I was thinking about trying:
McClelland Anniversary
McClelland 5110
Does anyone have any suggestions? Cheap suggestions are welcome.

H&H Larry's Blend is always good. I've also heard good things about 10 to Midnight but I haven't tried it.
GL Pease Gaslight is very latakia forward and quite nice, imo
Peter Stokkebye has a couple different English blends. I've tried English Luxury and Proper English and they were both good.
I picked up a brick of Sam Gawith Balkan Flake a while back. Haven't tried a bowl but when I jarred it up it smelled very smoky. And hey, if it's Gawith, it's got to be good.
Bill Bailey's Balkan Blend is good but like all Dan tobaccos, it's a little precious.

I have found that Latakia in a blend has a threshold where it goes from being a delicious, well-balanced condiment in a blend, to becoming noise that overwhelms the rest (as Perique does as well). Like putting so much hot sauce or mustard on something you can't taste what you are seasoning.
A blend that I have found to possess a perfect amount of Latakia, superbly balanced with other tobaccos, and a light topping (slightly influencing the flavor but not the room note), is Sutliff's Voodoo
Queen. I recommend it highly:

C&D Star of the East is a tasty little lat bomb. Not overly complex like a Balkan.
C&D Mississippi Mud is another tasty lat blend. Not a bomber but smooth and tasty.
Dunhill MM 965 is a tasty treat....probably a bit more going on in it than you are looking for thougn...Abingdon is another one that comes to mind...great lat forward taste, but a lot more complex than just lat forward.
Edit: I obviously missed your blurb on no C&D...my bad lol.

Aging the C&D blends tends to help tone down any harshness. Tins are easy, or buy some in bulk and make sure it's not completely dry before jarring it up. All C&D blens I've had have benefited from some aging. Nothing ridiculous, even just 6 months will help.
Stokkebye Proper English is another inexpensive and fairly tasty blend.

Well that was quick. Today, Lancers Slices are no longer on sale and no longer in stock.
Hope it was you who snapped it up,

Any of the GL Pease Old London series tops on my list, in particular Sextant and Meridian. Mac Baren Latakia Flake and Vintage Syrian are both very good, IMO, and the Captain Earle's blends are richly deep and incredibly complex.
In somewhat related news, I tried my first bowl of the new Lane Andullo today - Cigar Leaf, Latakia, and a touch of anise in the blend. Not a lat-bomb, but plenty tasty.

Yeah... that is what has happened to me the past four times I have tried to buy it!
I've basically given up on Lancers until after Christmas.
