How much tobacco can I fit in a one-quart Mason jar?
How much loose-leaf tobacco can I fit in a one-quart Mason jar? Not a trick question. If anyone has experience with using the quart sized, wide mouth jars, I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I can get about a pound in a qt jar. Rule of thumb is pretty much half the advertised capacity for me: 64oz jar holds 16oz tobacco, although my fingers get sore from cramming it in there. Likewise, I can get about 4 oz into one of those 8 oz squatty jars. I can get almost a pound and a half of flake into a qt jar with careful stacking.

LOL, I guess Zurg stuffs harder than I do
I was going to say about 6 oz of ribbon cut (w/o packing) or about a pound or more of a compressed variety such as flake.
You oughta know not to stand by the window, somebody see you up there.

I ordered a bunch of Mason jars from Kmart last night. They had a bunch of Cyber Monday specials with free shipping at $35 purchase.

Biggest jars I use are pints, mostly half-pints.
You can open one of the smaller jars while
the others continue to age.

This is what I do also, although I have a few quart jars with blends that I don't intend to age for long and just need to put of the consumption of.

Bill, are you shaping that metal with your hands.
My results are similar to Tobias, but cut and moisture affect the actual weight. Pressure will age more quickly but less evenly.
