    Who likes dublin shaped pipes?

I'm ordering a new pipe this week and am torn.

I was on a bulldog kick for a while but I think I've changed my mind for now.

Now I'm looking at a gorgeous (IMO) bent dublin. It has a really large bowl compared to other shapes, which I assume is typical for dublins.

So do you guys like em? I assume they're good smokers or they wouldn't be as popular as they are.

I've got a few Dublins and I like them too. Used to have a Ben Wade bent Dublin pipe that I really enjoyed. But my favorite shapes are billiards and bulldogs.

I have one small one that I enjoy. Unless I am mistaken, they normally have a conical shaped bowl. In my experience, if you are not accustomed to them, conical shaped bowls have to be packed much lighter and discretion must be used with the tamper compared to straight sided bowls. The bottom will compress to a higher degree, clogging the airway and leaving a wet mess. @freestoke 's musketball method works perfect in a cone. Just wad a ball of baccy up and shove it in the top, making sure not to cram it all the way down. The taper at the bottom leaves a nice little air pocket and as you (lightly) tamp the baccy will make it's way to the bottom.

Well, I didn't get the dublin.

I wasn't very adventurous and just ordered a plain ol' Savinelli billiard.

I still am intrigued by dublins and do plan to get one. I like the look and the fact that they're so large bowled.

I had read about the tapered, conical shaped chamber in the dublins. I wondered how that would effect things.

Congratulations on the new addition to your pipe stable. What model Savinelli did you get?

Got this one. It's not a stock photo, it's the exact pipe per smokingpipes.com.

I think the dublin is a cool shape. never smoked with one so no idea how well they work.

OK here's what I don't get, the Irish style pipe:

Wouldn't everything just fall out the front? Or is there some technique I'm not picturing?
You oughta know not to stand by the window, somebody see you up there.

Well it is Irish style so maybe it's made to be smoked while lying on one's back in a hammock

Never seen one like that. I guess you just have to keep it tamped tightly.

The Mark Twain from Missouri Meerschaum is a very fine Dublin. No taper in the inside, a Frank Method does it justice with flake. great pipe!
