    PDR Oscuro Review

    6/30/2014

Cigar: Pinar del Rio Oscuro Liga Cubana No. 2
    Size: Double Corona, 6.2"x54
    MSRP: $6.80
    Strength: Medium-Full
    Wrapper: Brazilian Oscuro
    Origin: Dominican Republic

Prelight: The oscuro wrapper is not as dark as others I’ve seen. It’s not as oily either. But it looks good with only a few small veins and smells faintly floral with a dash of cocoa. The foot is well packed and smells extremely chocolaty. There was a rather large stem at the cap when I cut, making things difficult. But, everything is still intact. The draw is a tad on the tight side and tastes faint, but like wood and chocolate.

1/3: The first few puffs are piney with tastes of chocolate – like Christmas. The first third is also floral with cream. But these flavors are mild…very mild. I am also having an issue with the burn which has become uneven. As the first third progress, I also get oakiness coming through.

2/3: The cigar is still very light in flavor, and has an ash on it that would make Jesus cry. The flavors are mostly oak and cream, but I am starting to pick up on some baking spices as well. The burn goes awry on me again (I touched it up at the end of the first third). Suddenly, the cigar goes out due to a massive tunnel.

3/3: Pepper is added to the woody flavors, and finally this cigar is starting to show some balls. Still not full flavor, but at least it’s verging on medium now. At the nub, the cigar gets very harsh and is solid wood and hay in flavor.

Overall: This is a pretty disappointing cigar. The flavors had potential, but just wouldn’t emerge fully. Then, when they tried they quickly became harsh. The construction was simply awful. I wouldn’t pay $2 for another one of these cigars. Smoke at your own risk.
To smoke is human; to smoke cigars, divine.
