Big thanks to Phil for sending me this cigar around Christmas time to review. He has been telling me about this cigar for quite some time and since I have never heard of it wanted to give it a shot and review it. I let it sit in my cooler for a few weeks since I prefer my cigars right around the 60rh mark.
From first look you can see this is a very well constructed cigar, simple but classy band and a nice weight to this Robusto, it took quite a bit of self control not to light this cigar up earlier, I am glad I waited though.
Right away this cigar gives off a nice leather flavor, just from the first few puffs this cigar has already caught my interest. Some cigars just take you back, and this one immediately reminded me of chewing on the laces of my baseball glove when I played.
As we work our way through the first third of the cigar the leather remains the dominant flavor however a nice cedar flavor is rounding out in the background. At this point the cigar is burning near perfect and the draw is excellent, this has the potential to be a real nice surprise.
Into the second third we go, the leather is not going anywhere...with many cigars the leather flavor comes and goes, sometimes it goes and never comes back...I am quite happy I am still picking up a distinct leather flavor at this point in the cigar. In the second third a nice peppery spice has popped in to join the fun.
Getting into the final third of this cigar, the spice begins to slowly disappear, I was hoping it stuck around for a little longer but a few puffs into the final third it is all but gone. The wonderful leather flavors are rounded out once again by a great wood flavor, seems like a great way to end this Robusto.
And onto the nub we go, I want to thank Phil once again for the chance to try this great cigar, without the generous gift I probably would have never even heard of this quiet gem. This is one of the reasons why the cigar community is so wonderful. And yes I am watching Big Bang Theory.
Now onto the $13 question...is the cigar worth the price...I really don't have that answer yet so I will compare apples to oranges for now. If you compare this to other $13 cigars that you can walk into a B&M and buy or get online without much hassle then yes I would say go for it, but if you were to put this up against some of the Limited Edition Tats that I payed $13 for I would probably grab those again if I could get my hands on them.
Sit back, relax and enjoy a great cigar in good health!
