    Purging

So, I have offhandedly mentioned in the past that I typically put out almost all my cigars when they reach the roughly 2 inches left point, as the taste makes a dramatic shift to unpleasantness.

Its been said that purging will eliminate this taste and return it back to normal and allow me to smoke more of it.

I have tried many times now, and have never noticed any change at all or especially any improvement.

Is there some trick to this I'm missing, or is it just a myth?
    Thanks,
    Sean

    I friggin' LOVE cigars

I've never had it make any difference for me even though I blow as hard as possible like 5 or 6 times.

    Purging

Im with Tony here. Try blowing out much more lightly. You may be causing the ember to burn way too hot by blowing so hard and causing even more harshness/bitterness. Also, not sure if u mean 5-6 times in a row- just 1 long, light blow at a time should do it

Yeah, i meant in a row.

Have also tried blowing lightly and still noticed no improvement.

Maybe its just my crappy palate since it seems to help everyone else

Yes, try 1 long lighter blow after every 4-5 puffs

    Gotcha.
Didn't realize it was something that needed to be done throughout vs just once the taste goes south...

    Thanks

Also, do find that you are a quick Smoker? If so, you may be overheating the cigar even before you purge. Do you find yourself making a lot of touch-ups? Again, may be overheating the cigar. All leading to that off-putting taste.
In the case of touch-ups, I purge to correct the burn unless I let it go too far before correcting.

This! I made a lot of cigars worse by blowing really hard and really long. I find that very soft breaths and short duration work best.

Purging won't always fix issues. but it often does.
    Insert witty comment here ...

I am a naturally fast smoker, but have trained myself to smoke much slower the last few years. The coal is usually pretty short and flat.
