    Bands

Is it just me, or is the trend the last few years been for bigger and gaudier bands on nc's?
Almost seems like they are in a competition for who can have the largest or gaudiest bands.
Kinda turns me off seeing a really large, gaudy band on a Cigar. Just doesn't look very classy to me like small, simple cc bands are.

I remember when I got into cigars over 10 years ago. I felt intimidated going into a b&m because of all the cigars or even worse scrolling for days on ci. There was a brief time for about a year or 2 I didn't really buy anything and when I came back to cigars it had gotten worse. The trend is more cigars all sizes multiple blends. Some manufacturers need something to catch your eye and stand out. I don't fault them for that. Cubans live on their reputation they don't have the same struggles that nc have with dozens of new cigars every year. Besides doesn't matter what's around the cigar its the cigar itself that determines its value so don't judge a cigar by its band.

I must admit, I am kinda a One Band Man. But I imagine there are folks who see multiple bands as some kind of classy, Esquire III kind of BS. To each their own, but more bands don't speak favorably to me. Although if a second band is informative to the cigar, that is fine. Silk ribbon foot bands are fluff. Almost an "if it smells like cologne, leave it alone" type of thing.

And I'm a Fuente guy, the Kings of multiple bands.

I do prefer multiple bands over no bands. I can never remember what or who made the damn thing.

It turns me off too, but not for the looks. I like to see the leaf before I buy a ciagar at a shop, and unlike a cedar sleeve, bands can't be pulled back to expose the cigar. For that reason I usually stay away from them, but I admit it's more subconscious that anything else.

I do like a secondary foot band (or just a foot band over the regular band), not just for looks, but I find it prevents the foot from cracking in transport.

    Same here.

Case in point - CAO Mortal Coil. Had it not been highly recommended by the shopkeep, it'd still be dismissed solely based on band and edgy name. But, that was one of the best, and probably my #2 stick of this year. Killer stick, shit band and name.

Totally agree. I get it, you have to stand out in a crowded space and it's a way to attract attention. However, when I see cigars that are 90% band, I'm instantly turned off. Classy is one issue but I also feel like if you have to dress it to the 9s, is the extra couple cents in banding there to upsell a mediocre cigar. Now, if it's just a cedar sleeve, that's different to me.

Yeah, the cedar sleeves don't bother me at all. At least they serve a purpose

I am the problem. I will knowingly buy a crappy cigar if I like the band.
