Pipes are a different breed of enjoying tobacco and like anything else one should want to take care of their equipment. If you've spent a good amount of money on your pipe does it make sense to abuse it by overheating it? There are briars that smoke well for around $25 and can be abused somewhat w/o having to worry about the cost of ruining it. Owning multiple pipes let's us have a fresh pipe anytime we want to smoke as I have about 10 of them. When the bowl gets so hot the enjoyment suffers to a degree. Just some rambling thoughts.
