I know they are cheap, but in a pinch has anyone had any success in recharging them? I rather ask you guys then some random google search.
And if so, is there a preferred method?
Probably a stupid question, but I have found it's better to ask when in doubt.

Yes, they can be a echarged. Most put into another airtight container with another small container inside of it holding water or suspended on a rack above water in the bottom of the container. I have seen putting a boveda in a ziplock bag and just put some water in the bag along with it in direct contact. The time it takes depends upon how depleted the boveda is.
What Mark said, the only thing I would add is to use distilled water to recharge.
I found a Tupperware with a layer of sponges then douce them in distilled water on the bottom. Then the packs on top. Place it by a window where it gets a lot of light or a heat source. It keeps the humidity in the air. The packs will suck it up quicker. It works well. Just down over charge them or they will burst.

You know they are charged again, when they have that "pillow" feel without any dry hard spots anymore? I think yes, but again, want to make sure.

Yes, they should plump up a bit. If there remains some dried out crystals inside, you can periodically shake them around a bit and put them back in the recharging station. If they are too far gone, the crystals may be difficult to fully dissolve. If crystals remain, they may not hold the labeled RH. My guess is they would hold a slightly lower RH in that case, but do not know for sure. Haven’t tested that.
I use a large bowl type tupper with a smaller one in the bottom with distilled water in it. I took an old refrigerator grate and cut it to fit over the lower (water holding) bowl and lay the Bovedas on that. I have had 10-12 in at one time but it takes longer to recharge. Some say you can put them in or on water but I never make contact. I pull when I start to feel chunks and stick them in to recharge. I flip them every day or two and "massage" them to mix the liquid and chunks around and get them to dissolve. I pull them out when they look good and the chunks are gone but I don't know that they are exact to the RH that's on the pack. My guess would be they lose a little over time so I don't worry too much about it, but the short answer to the original question is hell yeah. I've got packs 3-4 years old and have no intention of changing them out yet.
Recall having read of "Brown Water' recharing
Packs are put directly into the distilled water.
Tho the water will darken the packs will recharge.
No idea how much time the recharging would take, nor how well this method might work.
Perhaps some fellow Cigarbum may've tried this.
have never tried direct water contact or submerging them in water. Use an old sherbet container and wet a sponge and do two packs at a time. recharging the sponge when it gets dry , takes some time but packs plump back up. would be afraid if the packs get wet that they would eventually break apart and not hold the crystals
Had the wife pick up some distilled water today, going to take the 8 I have that are in need of a charge and follow the advise given. Thanks again very much folks!
