I've never smoked in my house, the lingering smell would be too much for me.
I got a little heater that hooks to the top of a propane tank and it puts off enough heat to keep me warm on the deck or in the garage with the door cracked. A single tank lasted all winter and then some, using it a couple times per week.
I'm in Texas though, not sure how it would stand up to 0 degree temps or anything like that.
Similar to Cardinal, I use a small ceramic heater on my back porch in the winter.
I smoke in my kitchen, and turn on the exhaust fan over the stove. I also usually crack a window. It's not ideal, but it's just too cold in the middle of winter to hang outside with a cigar in New England. It doesn't bother my wife, and I don't leave the kitchen with my cigar, so all is good. Honestly, the odor doesn't linger all that long.
When I still lived in the northeast I basically stopped smoking during the winter unless I went to a cigar bar. Just too damn cold to be outside smoking. On a very rare occasion I would open the window, turn on a fan and smoke inside. But then I would regret it all week when my house smelled like smoke. So I fixed that problem and moved south ;)
I'm out on the porch with this, if it gets to cold the lounge is about 5 blocks away.

Never had a chance to finish it because of a January thaw but this year I'm finishing my "Canadian smoking shed"

I have an absolutely wonderful girlfriend that lets me smoke at home (we live in a small apartment, so no garage option for me). She never complains about the cigar or cigarette stench although she doesn't smoke herself, but I do feel (slightly) bad for stinking up the apartment so the cigar consumption rate drops significantly in the winter months when the windows can't be kept open. Correspondingly pipe smoking increases exponentially, since the smell is significantly less noxious and she will even comment on how nice certain blends smell (even the ones with Latakia in them, I am truly blessed...)
And this is in the island of Mallorca when temperatures never, EVER drop below 0ºC (32F for you Americans) and rarely below 5 or 6ºC (which i estimate at around 10ºF)
OTOH, we have no cigar lounges in Spain, which sucks really hard. I'd probably trade being able to smoke cigars at home for having some of those around...
A lounge or not smoking for me in the winter.
Used to smoke in the house with a fan, the windows open, provided no rain or snow, and then a heavy dose of air freshener and febreeze for the curtains. But the Mrs has a keen sense of smell & asked me not to smoke in the house.
If there isn't much wind I'll fire up the fireplace on my back porch and sit by it. Otherwise, it's a lounge or no cigar. Dark days are ahead...
I use a propane heater underneath a large deck canopy. And when it's too cold or windy, I put a fire in the fireplace and smoke next to it. The smoke goes right up the chimney along with half the heat in the house, but hey, sacrifices...
Up here in Ontario, I heat up the garage, my workshop or just sit in the hot tub to have a cigar during the long winter....
big bulky arctic coat gloves stocken cap, large hot coffee....everyday on the front porch....
I sometimes smoke in my mancave room with the window cracked about 6" with a fan blowing out. I also stock up on small short smokes, JH Shots, Il Rothchilds, Monte #4 and #5's, etc. for sitting on the back porch by a space heater. I am also bundled up in layers and sometimes grab a Hot Pocket pouch used when hunting to keep my hands warm.
I'm reading all of these posts and chuckling to myself because now winter time smoking for me is having to put on socks and a sweatshirt. Hell...on the really chilly nights I have to wear a damn hat
I'm a back door man. The garden, grill and deck is out back. The wifey is cutting up fresh veggies to grill along with some grilled baked potatoes and a couple of ribeyes. Usually have venison, but tripped on a good deal on some beef. About to finish up the Abe Flores 1975 Series Privada and have a Savinelli Nicaraguan Reserve 2007 cut and ready to roll while I grill. Perfect evening here in NE Oklahoma again!...

I don't smoke inside either so in the winter I'll smoke in my car on the way to work or home or both. Luckily I'm looking at a 1 hr commute. On weekend I can usually go out on my front steps (just like I am now) bundled up with my smoking gloves...two fingertips snipped off. If it 25 degrees or so I can deal with it. When it was around 0 F like last winter I just can't do it. Another winter like last winter and I'm south bound.

I smoke inside. Installed an inline exhaust fan in the attic above my office / mancave room and dropped a couple of vents in the ceiling and haven't looked back. Don't smoke anywhere else in the house nor ever walk around with a cigar. Contained to one room and exhausted out.
Before that it was in the car - no garage here.
I have one of those attachments to the propane tank as well and for anyone in a cold area they are a must if you're going to smoke outdoors. I have a three seasons room where I smoke so I open the windows and turn on the propane next to me. That heater is a flame thrower! And we definitely have 0 degrees in upstate Indiana. Got the heater last year and it changed my cigar smoking life during the winter!
I have a partially finished room (work in progress) in my attic. Top level of the house, small air purifier and large window fan keeps the smoke contained and exhausted, so no smell downstairs. Couple chairs and a futon. TV, stereo, and game console make it complete.
I have a brewery at my new home and I will be smoking in there this winter when its just too cold outside or if its raining and I really want a cigar. I recall last year I would take my dog for a walk in the evenings with a killer jacket, gloves and an umbrella. The dog got walked a lot last winter..LOL
Cheers
Jay
I either smoke at my office in the back shop or I smoke in my shop at home. No smoking in the house
