A potential upcoming cigar company acquisition. Exclusive!

Fellow bums - after hours upon hours of tireless work, NBC Nightly News has learned of the upcoming acquisition of the Alec Bradley Cigar Company by Altadis (makers of the US versions of Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, H Upmann, and many others). It hasn't been announced currently, but I am a man of many contacts.

This would be the latest in the cigar company acquisition spree as of late, driven by anticipated upcoming FDA regulations, which saw Drew Estate and Torano be acquired in the second half of 2015.

Let's discuss and debate this potential acquisition and it's impact on the future of mankind.

Impact? Not sure. I am not very big into Altadis, and haven't had many AB's. I do like the Nica Puro.

i dont think drew estate sold out because of potential fda regulations but instead i think they had grown as large as they could being ran they way they where and in order to grow they had to do a sell out. maybe Alec Bradley is doing the same thing

no fda regulations have gone into place yet but there is a lot of talk about regulations being put into place

Whoa! I like Alec Bradley products myself. I know a lot of cigar people don't but for me a Maxx is solid time after time after time. Love others of theirs too.

I hope the FDA scare doesn't put the cigar companies in so few hands that innovation in product goes down. Always my worry when consolidation happens (in any industry).

Timing is a little odd, or maybe it's all part of the plan. Any of you guys read the Rubin interview in the latest Cigar Aficionado? You remember a few years back when the CEO of Domino's went on a bunch of commercials and basically admitted that their pizza sucked really bad, but they were working to improve it?

The owner of Alec Bradley basically did the same thing. He said that demand outstripped their ability to produce a quality product in 2012 after Prensado was named CA's #1 cigar, and was pretty frank about how awful their cigars were for a year or two. I remember buying a 5er of Prensados in 2013 and none of them burned right, and I have mostly given up on the brand ever since.

I know it seems a little off-topic, but maybe he did this for a little publicity and to try to wash the bad taste out of people's mouths as part of the acquisition deal. On the other hand, he also talked about his sons working for the company and how important that was to him.

I just didn't understand why they were bringing out a new blend seemingly every 5-6 months (it seemed) if they were having so many problems. I loved the Presnado, then they just ruined them with lousy combustion and sloppy construction. I was fixin' to get a Prensado tattoo on my caboose before they went to hell.....
