Tins/jars

How important is storage of pipe tobacco in tins or Mason jars, vs having all of it in bags, in a single large tupperdor all together?

Most people seem to either buy tins, which have a premium compared to the same amount of bulk tobaccos, or use mason jars, which seems like it would take up a ton of space for even my meager collection of about 20 different tobaccos, but there must be a reason behind it, aside from aging, with isn't something I'm set up to do, just like with cigars.

All my aged tobaccos were from 2 bombs, and like cigars, I'll have to keep an eye out for someone selling aged pipe tobaccos like I did with my early 2000's Cigars hookup.

I use small canning jars. Most of the tobacco I sent you were stored in them for over 10yrs.
They seal well and I keep them in the basement which is 68 deg year round. Have never had a problem.
I don't trust tupperware for long term storage but that's just me

If aging isn’t your goal, a small mason jar is great to keep a newly opened tin/can from drying out. Quick and simple. 👍🏻

My main concern in getting jars as a number of people have said that tobaccos kept in separate bags, but the same tupperdor, will mingle characteristics due to the large amount of smell through the baggies, which I can definitely see, as every bag is strong, wonderfully pungent.

Just don't want to mess up my tobaccos over $30 worth of jars to contain the smells, and sometimes ziploc bags rip while opening, so jars eliminate that too

JMHO,
I have always used jars when I open a tin, mainly to stop the tobacco from drying out, if I have several blends open. Ghosting, I have only found when smoking say a heavy Latakia, then a Virginia a few days later in the same pipe. So half my pipes are for any blend with Latakia, and the rest for most others. The only exception to that is my cobs and Meerschaum. The Meerschaum has never ghosted, and I’m not too concerned with a cob, that has a little extra flavor to it. My more expensive briar pipes, those I keep separated. I suppose you could get cross “contamination” from the aromas, but I honestly don’t know if it would impact the actual taste of the tobacco.

Hopefully someone else will chime in on that topic, since I’ve never experienced it.

I just went with jars from the start to save myself any hassle.

Small mason jars are not very expensive here. The nice thing is after the tobacco is gone you wash it out , dry it and reuse it.
They last forever if you don't break it. I don't mix any tobacco no matter what. I have found that freezer ziplock bags will keep
tobacco moist for a long time. I've had some for over a year and did not dry out. Long term, jars are the way to go for me.

On the Aro tobacco, flavored cigars are nowhere near the same as Aromatic pipe tobacco. I hate flavored cigars but smoke my fair share of
Aro tobacco. As with anything just because somebody else doesn't like it doesn't mean you won't either. bulk is cheap. Try different ones you may be surprised.

Check Pipes and Cigars and also Cup O' Joes web sites. I have bought quite a bit from both of them.

As I said earlier, I’m not a big aromatic fan. I gave them a try in the beginning, but couldn’t really get into them. Don is correct though, you may enjoy the heck out of them. As he said and I 100% agree, infused cigars and aromatic pipe tobacco, are not even in the same category.

They make so many sized mason jars, and you really can’t go wrong with them, for the price and how long they last.

Got 80, 4oz canning jars with the rubber seal on the 2 piece lid. Should work perfectly for the 1 to 2oz I am currently buying of anything, with 1 exception I plan to buy 4 oz of when I can catch it back in stock (GH&Co BBF #2) as it was the top standout of anything I tried by far, so I'll want to stock up while it's in stock briefly as I see myself smoking it often, and due to being so popular it sells out quick it seems.

Taking the DEEP DIVE it appears! 80 jars all ready to go?
I’m in no way telling you what to do, but if I may give a little advice. It’s completely up to you if you decide to stay on your current path, again whatever makes you happy/enjoy the experience.

There is a possibility, things you really like right now, might not hit the spot once you start having more variety. Bulk is great to jar, I have a ton. I just hate for you to buy a 1/2Lb of something, and as your pallet “matures” find you didn’t really like it. If that makes any sense at all. Just trying to save you from my own mistakes, when I first started.

But honestly, you do you, and enjoy my friend!

Anything new, I only buy an ounce, Anything I particularly like, I'll get 2oz when I'm out of the original ounce, and so far only 1 that blew me away and I'll get 4oz of.

No plans to buy any amounts larger than that. Partly for the exact reason you stated, plus I just don't need a whole lot of anything. A couple ounces it a fair bit more than many would think.

Right now I'm buying lots of different ounces to discover what I like and what I dont, plus, like with cigars, I'm a big fan of variety, so there's a good chance eventually all 80 jars will be filled with the stuff I liked. If not, a small jar is always handy for things.
