Flor de D'Crossier Selection 512 Habano (Coloniales / 5 1/8 x 43)

Probably mild-plus at first.

There's a combination of a zesty, lemony, and floral note in the forefront throughout the 512. Not very subtle, and nowhere near strong.

Light pepper, but well paired to avoid shadowing the forefront note. Picks up probably around the 1/2 mark.

Hints of leather on a SLOW retrohale.

Residual taste is very nice, and this is where the habano wrapper shines - it's a somewhat-sweet and pasty tobacco taste.

The 2/2 becomes much more alive, picks up to medium bodied and flavored; where some these tastes may have existed, but either change or are more prominent. The forefront is still alive, but the background starts to shine more. There's a clean roasted nut flavor, and at first it's hard to discern which nut it could be - I thought almonds, chestnuts, and walnuts; and near the end it seems more walnut. On the end of the retrohale there's a subtle, yet noticeable scent that emerges and lightly lingers - it made me think of a combination of something kinda dark, light musk, and wet wood

The 512 can be temperamental with over-heating, but it never did become close to bitter. It will just warn you in a way where you know to slow down. To me, the flavors just became dirty or not pleasant.

Overall it is a VERY chill-mood kinda, and relaxing cigar.

Superb construction with no issues on burn or staying lit.

Trial By Smoke Judgement:

Pretty good cigar. This isn't something I consider within my wheelhouse, but it grew on me the more I smoked it - especially towards the end. I could definitely see this being something to go to when I just want something chill, nowhere near powerful, yet not really mild. I do have a certain cigar just for that occasion, but I may be down to just a single. I've seen these for $3/ea when you buy a 20 ct. can - and that's a great deal, in my opinion. This is my first from the brand, and it put the brand on my radar to where I'm definitely wanting to check out other offerings, like the Maduro 512. Recommended to all Bums.

That's why I put em here, and I'm glad you liked it!

I kinda feel that the more I write about cigars, the more I notice when smoking; or I at least have my own vocabulary when referencing something.

Reading what other Bums describe as a "flavor" or "taste" by likening them to particular things or thoughts has made them click to me, and that has helped tremendously. You know there's a taste - but what is it? That has been some of the fun. Especially with "leather" - something I very recently discovered due to a nice description by @Nature

That’s where I have the hardest time is pulling out specific flavors. I like to think I can pick out easy things like caramel or chocolate or coffee but I think I just attribute any kind of aromatic sweetness to one of those 3 things. I have a much harder time with things like “leather” or “cedar” or I hear “cream” tossed around a lot. I assume a more discerning palate will come the more sticks I burn but maybe like you, the more I put down on “paper” and the more I detailed reviews I read will provide some clarity.
