Bummin' Around
My Benefactor
So I feel a bit remiss in that I have yet to post anything about the motherland that was sent to me by Tobias. I have been trying to figure out something to say about it, but I am still in over my head. Out of 15 bowls that I have had since receiving "the great gift", I have had about 8-10 of various Tobias samples. I wanted to have a more detailed review (which hopefully I will do at some point), but for now here is what I have.
I have loved all that I have tried. I think that I have pipes in my genes. (And coincidentally enough, have had a great number of memories pop up about my Granpop smoking pipes)
I bought some jars to get the samples into and spent one night going through all of them and sealing them up. I gave a sniff test and noted which I loved more and less. I thought that I would not like Virginias at all after the smell test. But I noticed that the taste of the smoke was very different from the smell. I LOVED the smell of the English Blends that he sent me, and the Aromatics always smell great, me thinks. The Virginias were underwhelming in the nose, compared to the others, but when I lit them up, I did not notice a huge difference in the taste, or at least in the enjoyment.
I remember this about cigars as well. In the beginning it was just too much to wrap my head around. So for now I am trying to nail down if I like Aro's vs English vs Virginias. Right now I can see myself living in the English world, but I am still enjoying everything else that I try. I am planning to have the ability to narrow down to brands and cuts from there. But for now, that's all I got.
Thanks A Ton Tobias!
And thanks again to Haebar for the Map Directions....

Waiting on Octember 1st
Explore, explore, explore. In my mind, trying new blends is the single most enjoyable part of the hobby. I realize some prefer the same fare, but I have always liked sampling. We live in a time when the offerings are more expansive than ever before- might as well take advantage of that fact.
