    Pipes Kinda Stink

I haven't seen this discussed here, but I was wondering about an issue I have with pipe smoking.

My rack of pipes, well, it kind of stinks like stale pipes. For the most part, individual pipes don't smell, but for a day or two after smoking one, it emits the odor of stale smoke. And since I smoke a pipe about every other day, at any given time, the rack is odiferous. It kind of smells up the room it's in (spare bedroom), and wafts out into the hallway.

Regarding pipe hygiene, I lightly scrape out the bowl of each pipe after I'm done with it, and blow out any bits from the tube, after which I run a pipe cleaner thru it. Note - a part of the odor is the used pipe cleaners in the waste basket, but it's mostly from the pipes themselves.

So, I'm wondering, do you guys (don't want to exclude girls; just assuming there aren't any here) experience this? If so, is it normal, i.e., just live with it (it's really not wrecking my life or anything), or abnormal and there's something I could be doing to mitigate?

    Tnx in advance, y'all!
You oughta know not to stand by the window, somebody see you up there.

I've got no answers for you but I've noticed this too. Mine is in my wood shop in the basement so its not an issue for me but if I can ever convince the wife to let me get the pipe rack upstairs this'll be good to know. Following...

Having been a cigarette smoker for over 30 years, everything around me smells like smoke.
I'm lucky in that I don't have to go outside to enjoy my pipes or cigars.I do have to take
english or heavy virginias to at least another room.So where I don't have any real helpful
advice I can most securely watch over your smelly pipes for you, please make sure to send
the appropriate tobaccos for each.I will place them close to my own so they wont be lonely.

For me, after I clean my pipes I dip the pipe cleaner in some Bourbon. I run the cleaner thru the stem and then the pipe until
the cleaners aren't dirty anymore. Then I take a q-tip and dip it and clean the bowl. Usually takes 2 or 3 for the bowl.
Takes away the smell for me anyway.
Couple of things I've learned. I like good Bourbon and hate wet toilet paper.

Yeah, they stink. I hear ya.

I run a pipe cleaner thru the stem and swab out the bowl with the same cleaner but they still stink a while.
I store just-smoked pipes outside in a well ventilated area (garage, pole barn, shop) for a few days before moving them back inside. I also find that keeping them inside some kind of a wooden cabinet with doors that close helps to mitigate the stench. I imagine one of those cheap 100ct humidors would work perfect if you wanted to get fancy.
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Have used Vodka to keep the stink-demons away from my pipes. I spray the pipe cleaner then insert into the pipe stem and keep swabbing until all residue is gone from the cleaner. It only takes one pipe cleaner ( both ends ) and the alcohol takes away any trace of tobacco smell.

This is what I do. I keep my pipes in the basement and if I store just smoked pipes inside, I notice the smell as soon as I get to the top of the steps. The smell also seems to last a few days if I bring them right inside after smoking. If I just leave them outside for a day or so and then bring them in I do not notice the smell.

I would also get pipe cleaners out! They stink to high heaven.
