    Dampened Palette

All right, here's a dumb one. It seems that I'm having a taste problem. Lately the mixtures all taste like empty smoke.
Not bitter or ashy, but airy.I'm a heavy coffee drinker, and I smoke around a pack of cigarettes a day, but this didn't
seem to interfere before. I'm not suffering a cold or anything like that. So any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a similar experience recently. My go beverage with my evening cigar had become coffee and it always paired very well. Then I noticed that ALL of my sticks were tasting exactly the same, and not very good. I tried resting my palate a few days and still the same thing happened. Then I switched to Scotch and all the flavors were back. I don't know why, but the coffee was completely dampening my palate (even though it never had before). I'll give a few weeks and then try coffee with my cigar again and see if the problem is solved. But for now, the switch to a different beverage with my cigar seems to have worked.

I agree with @CoachDread about the coffee. But I also believe the cigarettes could be adding to the dampening. How soon after a cigarette are you smoking the cigar? I find that if I don't cleanse my palate between a cigar & cigarette the taste of the cigar is muted/muttled.
I will do some lemon water or sparkling water before I move on to the cigar.

First, Thank you for a good reason to buy some more scotch !

It's usually a few minutes after a cigarette that I'll light a pipe or cigar, but coffee is always at my side. I'll try the lemon water and switch
my drink to something other than coffee when smoking the pipes or cigars. Thanks for the advice.

I don't smoke cigarettes, but do find I need to take a couple days off every so often. If I have a couple days in a row where I can't seem to really enjoy the flavors of a cigar a break seems to do the trick.

I lot of things can dull your palate.
Hot food/drink, cold food/drink, spicy food, infections, dry mouth, smoking and extremely sour foods.
Dehydration can cause a dry mouth. Make sure you are drinking enough water.
