Manufacturer: Tatuaje
Brand: El Triunfador Brown Label LE Lancero
Size: 7.5x38
Cost: $9.00
Rest Time: 1 Month
Burn Time: 1:45
Prelight: This Lancero has a spongey uneven pack and is covered in a dark chocolate heavily mottled wraper. The cigar has large visible, almost open seams, and has a sand paper like consistency. The prelight aroma is the classic barnyard with a touch of cedar. I lop the cap with my Xikar Xi and off we go. Prelight draw is raisins, hay and vegetal flavors.
1st 3rd:
On first light I get chocolate, strong black pepper mid-palate and a spicy red pepper on the finish. The cigar has a very dry, gritty feel on the lips and tongue and the smoke has a gritty feel to it as well. Once the stick settles down the grittiness to the smoke continues accompanied by dry earth, wood, leather and a subtle fruit undertone. The pepper has died down mid palate but a stealthy red pepper remains on the finish.
2nd 3rd:
The ash consistently holds on for about 3/4 of an inch before dropping. The smoke output is about what you'd expect from a lance, light. The smoke is medium bodied, gritty and very dry. The flavors of leather and wood remain, with a faint cherry and rosemary on the finish and while the red pepper has died down in flavor the tingle in the back of my throat remains.
Final 3rd:
In The final third the fruit flavors fall of but sees the addition of coffee, cocoa and peanuts. The pepper in the back of the throat is now all but gone. The body has moved up to med-full in body with no strength.
Summary:
The burn on this stick was a little challenging requiring a number of relights and touch ups most likely due to the short rest. The body was med to med-full with no strength. I've smoked a number of the red label El Triunfadors in the past and while they are a good smoke they are probably my least favorite of the Tat lances. The brown label adds a CT broadleaf wrapper as opposed to the Ecuadorean Habano wrapper used on the red. This wrapper contributed to the grittiness of the smoke, which I found a little weird at first, but came to enjoy it as the cigar progressed. The flavors were bold and complex and you LP fans or any fan of the broadleaf will no doubt enjoy this stick.
