Review: Of The Longest Cigar Name Of All Time...

The La Gloria Cubana Selectos de Lujos Salomon Figuarado Reserva Especiales...

Whew~! I think I sprained a pinky just typing that name.

    Marca: La Gloria Cubana

    Brand: SdLSFR

    Vitola: 7.25x52 (Salomon/Perfecto/Figurado)

    Wrapper: Maduro (CT Broadleaf)

    Fillers: Domincan Republic

    Vintage: 2004

    Strength: Medium

    Body: Full

    Time: 1hr 20min

    Rating: 8.5/10

    Recommend?: YES

Ernesto Perez-Carillo, one of my all-time favorite blenders, really out-did himself with this one. Originally released back in 2004, all 90,000 of this extremely limited release were rolled by his two, top torcederos. That number wasn't for this particular vitola (30,000), but rather for the entire line of these incredible sticks. They made them in two speeds; the maduro (seen here) and an Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper. Both are excellent and highly recommended, but I slightly prefer the maduro (I've always held EPC to be the last word in all things maduro).

The shape of this cigar is absolutely intriguing. It's simply beautiful to look at. The wrapper is about as oily as oily gets and the pre-light nose is deep and rich. Lighting one of these is about as no-hassle as it gets. The perfecto tip takes about a second to nurse the flame and start a perfect burn; a testament to the roll-quality.

At the beginning, due to the small cherry at the tip, it isn't exactly a bellowsed fire, in terms of smoke production, but this quickly transforms into a house fire. Initial notes are nutty, with hints of cherries and lots of smooth cream. There's also a wonderful earthiness that really kicks in a little further back.

If you were smart enough and especially lucky enough to have bought into these upon release, you're in for a simply extraordinary treat when you decide to dig one out. This is one of the best cigars of all, non-Cuban time and the age has rendered something truly memorable.

Just something about an ashing perfecto...

    Thanks for watching

Thanks, Kayla. I've always been fond of your 'ash' as well.

Didn't go yet. We leave on June 7th. But our engraving manager just got back from there, and he brought a NASTY stomach virus with him. I am a little worried now

Do not, I repeat do not drink the water. Do not eat anything rinsed in the water. Do not in any way consume the water.

Oh, and take your own tp.

... and don't drink bottled water with ice in it unless you know the ice is also made from bottled water.

I know someone who got sick as a dog in Mexico from an ice cream cone.
Seems they rinsed the scoop in their own tap water and that's all it took.

Ok. If worried about drinking the water, what will you eat while there?
I'm not referring any single location or country.
    Unwashed salads?
I know some people who used only bottled water to brush their teeth during a ten day stay in a South of the (US) border Country.
One of those who swore that he used only bottled water when brushing his teeth 'got sick as a dog."

Here's my question for you who will avoid the water.
Do you intend to spend your days unwashed?
If not, then how can you make sure you do not breathe in a single drop of water while showering?

I've spent a bit of time south of the border. You learn to shower with your mouth shut, and as far as inhaling goes, well you gotta breathe, so you're not going to totally eliminate risk.
You oughta know not to stand by the window, somebody see you up there.
