PDR Seleccion Review

Cigar: Pinar del Rio Seleccion Reserva Limitada

Wrapper: Pennsylvania Broadleaf
Origin: Dominican Republic

Prelight: This cigar has a nice looking wrapper (as far as color goes) but there are a few veins and the cap is pretty ugly. The bands are quite loose on this cigar, making me think that they were applied while the cigar was quite wet and it has shrunk as my humi is 61% when I pulled this out. The wrapper smells floral and the foot is woody. I punch the cap which is quite thick and the draw is perfect.



1/3: Smoke is pouring out of this cigar! There are flavors of pepper and cream, and nuts as well in the first third. The ash is white and thick. At one point the flavors drops off, but then comes pack fairly quickly, bringing baking spices with it.



2/3: The second third is wood and baking spices for half of it (with slight pepper) but then I just get tobacco. I’ve never wanted to write that I pick up tobacco in a cigar, because that is like saying an apple tastes like apple. Of course, but then do all apples taste the same? No. But, there are just no nuances to the flavor at this point, and I might as well call a spade a spade.



3/3: A little baking spice still, but mostly plain ol’ tobacco. But quickly in the final third the flavors become harsh and unpleasant to me. I end up putting the cigar out with just over an inch left; I’m over it.

Overall: PDR is seeming to be hit and miss with me. Some I like, some I don’t. This one is both. I really liked the first half, but the second half just didn’t float my boat. The construction was good throughout, but I prefer a cigar I can smoke to the nub and not cringe with each puff after the halfway mark. I’ll be passing on these in the future.

I think this one is perhaps the most smokey cigar I have lit up.Clouds and clouds that will set off smoke detectors.
