Oliva Serie V Belicoso

Paired with: Green Mountain Coffee "Dark Magic"

Foot: Straw and barnyard
Prelight Draw: Spice, earth, and a slight lip tingle

Fired up the V, aka "Ligero Especial", and...

First third give tastes of heavy spice and wood (cedar?), aromas of strong cedar and a faint fruit smell.

Second third: tastes now spice and a toasty wood, smell now cedar and spice.

Final third: Taste and smell are the same as second, plus a charred note.

Summary: A good example of Oliva quality. Pricy, $7 with fax, but worth it as an occasional smoke. This one was in celebration of a good interview today.

Cain by Oliva - Cain F Lancero Review

Paired with Casey's Dark Roast

Nose is straw and tobacco. Preflight draw is tobacco and light spice.

1st third gives tastes of toasted tobacco and wood, with a strong spice smell through the nose.

2nd and 3rd were same as 1st, with a mild wood aroma.

Summary: Mildly disappointed in this one. "Straight Ligero", to me, means a stout one. The experience was much like a standard LGC, a strong medium. Oliva quality, short on power though.

Oliva Serie G Maduro Belicoso

Paired with: Casey's 100% Colombian

Nose is earth and wood, with a prelight draw of coffee, spice and some wood. Wrapper feels very toothy, almost sandpaper-ish.

1st third gives tastes of bittersweet chocolate, dark coffee and earth. Smell is chocolate and wood, not sure which variety.

Much like the Cain, I didn't pick up any changes. This was a much better smoke, to me. Maybe because I didn't have any preconceived notions of strength? It had a consistently good taste, and an easy draw. Methinks I need to find a Master Blends 3 to try!

Oliva Connecticut Reserve Lonsdale
Paired with: Eight O Clock Dark Italian Roast

Nose is straw and tobacco. Prelight draw is oaky with straw.

This cigar gave no transitions, staying pleasantly creamy, toasty and oaky to taste, with light tobacco and wood aromas. It's a longer cigar than I usually smoke (coronas, fat robustos), but it was a nice mild/med stick.

Nub by Oliva Maduro 460 Review

Paired with Folger's 100% Colombian
Nose is a straw and barnyard aroma (pleasant barnyard). Cold draw gave tastes of earth and a toasted tobacco.
1st half: I got the classic Maduro profile of earth and coffee, plus something "roasted". Can't tell what, but nice indeed. Aroma was of baking chocolate, plus that roasted note again. Nice!
2nd half: The roasted note went away, still leaving me guessing. Nuts? Tasted earth and coffee, plus a little chocolate. Ditto the aroma.

Nice little stick indeed. Think I will find me a sampler of these to try. Thus completes my Oliva review set. Thanks for reading! Viaje is next, lucky, lucky me!
