The I Love Papas Fritas That is All Review

This was the last review I posted on Puff so thought I would post it here.

    Manufacturer: Drew Estate
    Brand: Papas Fritas
    Size: 4.5 x 44
    Cost: $3.75
    Rest Time: 6-Weeks
    Burn Time: 48 minutes

Prelight: The cigar has a dark chocolate mottled wrapper with a pig tail top and a firm dense even pack. Prelight aroma is a spicy Mexican chocolate. I moisten the pigtail, give it a twist and it comes off cleanly providing a good draw revealing flavors of spicy raisins.

    1st 3rd:

On first draw i get a blast of black pepper followed by chocolate and coffee. After the PF settles down dark chocolate is still there with a strong harsh zing of cayenne pepper mid palate and an earthy finish. The smoke is thick, but very drying in the back of the throat.

    2nd 3rd:

Entering the second third the cayenne pepper has transformed into a strong cinnamon like the red hot candies, not the spice. The chocolate is still there but it comes quickly and fades fast leaving some molasses, cedar and earthy flavors. The smoke output, like all DEs, comes off the foot in abundance

    Final Third

The PF has really mellowed now there is a spicy chocolate on the draw with raisins and sweet earth on the finish. Smoking slowly allows me to take it right to the nub with no harsh hot flavors.

    Summary:

Even with the thick broadleaf wrapper the PF was a quick burner, requiring me to slow it down and take shallower draws to keep the cherry from glowing. I could actually hear the leaves burning not unlike a cigarette wrapper. Performance was good requiring one relight early and the burn was even down to the nub. The PF was med-full in body with no perceptible strength.
I wasn't a huge fan of the Liga #9, but raved about the FFP and for me the PF fell right between those two in flavor and enjoyment at a fraction of the cost. The Papas Fritas is a really nice winter short smoke.

Good review! I had one and enjoyed it, but wish I could find them that cheap. I can only find them for $5-6.

Great smoke. Hard to believe it's mixed filler.
