MSRP: $16.70
Strength: Full
Wrapper: Oscuro
Origin: Dominican Republic

Prelight: This is an amazing looking cigar. There is a natural wrapper on the cap and foot, but the bulk is LFD’s oscuro wrapper. The cap has an adorable (ahem, er I mean skillfully applied) pig tail. The wrapper has a few lumps, that look like possible stems in the filler and smells very chocolaty. The foot also smells very chocolaty. It almost seems a shame to clip the pig tail, but I do, and the cold draw is right where I like it and – surprise, surprise – is also chocolaty.

1/3: I pay close attention to the first few puffs to see if there is a difference with the wrapper. I get pepper, chocolate and cream. As soon as I get to the oscuro, the pepper and chocolate is gone, and I get creamy, oily, earthy leather. Oh man! So much sweet cream. Once in a while cedar pokes its head into the mix, but the first third is owned by cream.

2/3: I’m realizing that I skipped lunch today. This is a full strength cigar for sure. I also get some canoeing going on, which I am forced to touch up. The cedar flavor is making a valiant effort to usurp the leather and earth, but nothing can touch the sweet cream. By the end of the second third, I am spinning a bit, but push on and into strengthened wood and a slight vegetal taste.

3/3: I notice a bit of green leaf at the head, which probably accounts for the vegetal flavors. But they don’t last long as creamy wood still dominates. A bit of interesting spice (not pepper) is added in the final third as well. Finally, the cream subsides, and the nub is pure cedary goodness.

Overall: Another marvelous example of the kind of cigars LFD puts out. With the high price point, expectations are high, and while I wouldn’t pay MSRP for it (at least not without scouring the net for a cheaper price) I would definitely buy this cigar. If you have a sweet tooth, and take pleasure in having your butt handed to you by Nick O’Teen, then this cigar will not disappoint. The only downside was the slight burn issues, but with a wrapper leaf that oily, what do you expect?
