Cigar: La Flor Dominicana Ligero L250
Size: Rothschild, 4.75”x48
MSRP: $6.40
Strength: Full
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra
Origin: Dominican Republic
Prelight: The L250 has a smooth, veinless natural wrapper. The wrapper smells of earth and hay, while the foot emits a woody chocolate aroma. After clipping the extremely well made cap, the pull on the cold draw is spot on and tastes like slightly sweetened cedar.
1/3: When I get into the sun, I notice the wrapper has almost a Rosado hue to it, and there is a very slight tooth. The first third starts with dried fruit and black pepper, with a heavy cream note. The ash is solid and gorgeous. The pepper starts to fade and become replaced with wood as I approach the second third, and I notice a slight cracking in the wrapper.
2/3: The crack does nothing to affect the cigar, and the second third is dominated with wood. It almost seems an amalgamation of cedar and oak, as there is an earthiness to it, a spiciness, and even a slight bitterness (which is not unpleasant in the least). By the end of the second third, cedar becomes the prominent wood flavor.
3/3: Chocolate and leather are added to the earthy cedar in the final third. The burn has stayed fairly straight and the ash is hanging on like a kitten to a screen door. By the time I reach the nub, just a bit of grassiness creeps into the profile.
Overall: What a great cigar! Perfect size, near-perfect construction, great flavors. Ratings for this stick better be in the mid-90s, or I have lost all faith in reviews. I love a great Dominican, and the L250 is it. It has the classic earthiness and chewy leather I expected while keeping it interesting with add-ons like dried fruit, cream and just the right amount of spiciness. I am looking forward to the next LFD in the lineup.
