    La Herencia Cubana londsdale

    LHC copy.jpg

La Herencia Cubana is one of the earlier blends put out by AJ Fernandez, and since I am an AJF whore I decided to give it a try. You don't see it smoked much, and given the popularity of the Core and Oscuro Fuerte, I needed to give it a shot.

    Tobacco origin
    Wrapper: Ecuador Sumatran
    Binder: Nicaraguan
    Filler: Nicaraguan

    Rest time: 3 weeks

    Aroma: plain tobacco and wood
    Cold draw: plain tobacco

Initial impressions: The construction of this cigar was very good and held a tight ash. The blandness of the aroma and cold draw were kind of a let down, though.

1st third: I mainly noted the tobacco and wood I got from the cold aroma, along with a mix of black and red pepper. There was no complexity at all to the initial blend. A slight nutty aroma was coming from the foot smoke. Near the end of the first third, a mild sweetness crept in and the pepper died down. Medium bodied, medium strength

2nd third: The tobacco flavors were still dominate, but the sweetness that crept in was becoming stronger. About halfway into the second third a dark cherry note appeared which was very pleasant. Unfortunately it disappeared within a few minutes. The wood notes ramped up and some bitterness appeared during the end of the second third. Medium bodied, medium-full strength.

Final third: The bitterness started to take over the profile, and was joined by harshness. Ended with full strength as I was definitely feeling the nic kick in my stomach. Medium bodied, full strength.

Final thoughts: IMO this is one of the least enjoyable blends that AJF puts out, and I can see why they aren't very popular. If the cherry flavor had been present throughout the smoke alongside the sweetness, it would have been a much more pleasant smoke. However, I wouldn't waste my time trying another anytime soon. I'll let the others sit for a while and see how they do after they age.

Thanks! I think AJF is at the top of my list, but Padron would be if he had more offerings in the same price range. His portfolio is tighter than a nun on a snare drum.

    Another great review!

I'm enjoying seeing the influx of reviews as of late.
