La Gloria Cubana - Tres Puros, Tres Reviews
OK, fellas. With the poll I started, here is the triple review.
Attachment 3910
Dominican Puro
Attachment 3911
Smoked: 9/27
Wrapper: the lightest of the three, it smells of hay, tobacco and barnyard. Foot gives a musty tobacco note. Cold draw is oak and tobacco.
First third: Tastes of creamy, oaky and salty notes. I am really lovin' the salty notes my palate has started picking up of late. Aromas are baking spices and nuts.
Second third: tastes are salty and oaky. Hey, where's the creamy note?! Aromas of cinnamon and spice and nuts.
Final third: Tastes are salt and pepper, oaky, and the creamy returns. Aromas of spice, nuts and that beautiful salty note.
Thoughts: An AWESOME mild to medium. Just wished for the power that Fuente's puros have.
Honduran Puro
Attachment 3912
Smoked: 9/27
Wrapper: darker, with barnyard and spice notes. Foot gives tobacco and an oakish note. Cold draw is tobacco, oak and spice, almost bourbon barrel-ish.
First third: tastes of oak, spice and leather. Strong stick, starts full-bodied. Very strong aromas of pepper, spice and oak. Hitting that bourbon note again.
Second third: tastes of spice, oak and red pepper. Aromas of bourbon again (pepper, spice and oak) and toasty.
Final third started by turning warm and spongy. Tastes of oak, spice and char. Aromas of toast and char.
Thoughts: Started full, backed off to med-full in the second and final thirds. Otherwise, excellent. That persistent, peppery bourbon note was a fantastic part of this stick!
Nicaraguan Puro
Attachment 3913
Smoked: 9/28
Mirror, mirror on the wall, this is the darkest wrapper of them all. Smells faintly of tobacco and pepper. Foot gives dusty tobacco note. Cold draw is of deep earth, spice and pepper.
First third: tastes of pepper, spice and a faint licorice note. Med-full at this early stage. Aromas of black pepper and spice.
Second third: tastes of richness, pepper and a spice note that I feel is a red spice. Odd, I know, but there. Definitely a full body now. Aroma is strongly peppery and spice.
Final third: tastes of heavy pepper, spice and char. Aromas of spice, cedar and char.
Thoughts: definitely the strongest of the three. Needed a medicinal dose of milk and cookies after.
Final thoughts on the set: This was an excellent opportunity to see LGC's blending abilities. Of the 3, my favorite pick was Honduran, followed by Dominican.

Love Gloria Cubana (keep series R on hand in humidor)but always have burn issues. Wondering if these had construction issues.
