July 4th Special Review - You Vote, I Smoke & Review
Bums, I want to thank you for your generosity you've given me, and I want to make it a special review, just for you (even though I'll be the one enjoying it). Below are your choices, and the cigar with the most votes wins.
1. Davidoff Madison Avenue
2. Plasencia for Davidoff of Geneva
Both of these cigars were Davidoff Madison Ave (NYC) exclusive cigars to this store only. They've been "aging" since Thanksgiving Eve 2019.
In the event of a tie, the 4th vote will given two votes.
Voting ends when I decide to smoke it in the 4th, which will probably be in the evening.
Enjoy your 4th!

Voting is still open. Probably won't get to the winner till later tonight around the time of the fireworks show...which is now digital...and super lame. I'll make a post declaring cut off and winner before I smoke.

Davidoff Madison Avenue
NYC Store Exclusive
Intro:
Went to NYC on the day before Thanksgiving 2019 to celebrate an early birthday for my daugter, check out the parade floats, and see the Christmas sights in Rockefeller Plaza and NYC. Went to American Girl, and had a fantastic time with her and the family as she picked out her doll and took her to lunch with us at the American Girl Cafe. The Davidoff store wasn't too far away, and it was the only place I wanted to go. Did some research and found they have two exlusives to the store and went in quickly while the wife watched the kids. Bought the two for a total of about $50. Super nice place, but I didn't have time to kill to fully enjoy it.
Pre-Smoke Judgement:
This will be an awesome cigar. I've only had one Davidoff up till now, and can't remember what it was. A good Navy friend, and still is one of my best friends, was in town, so we treated ourselves. The Davidoff was superb, but the wallet took a little beating. The Madison Avenue should be a notch above the forgotten Davidoff, since it's a store exclusive.
1/3:
Very light taste. Mediumish and subtle. A little spice at first. Residual reminds me of the taste when you soak wood chips in water, and you drink a little bit of said water to see what it tastes like. Or is that something only I've done? Unimpressing to me thus far about a 1/2 inch in. Dry tobacco residual with a hint of...wood? I was expecting a fancy experience, my bums. Maybe it's me? That's a good possibility. Maybe this just isn't my "type"?
2/3:
I try to go anti-fancy. Hit this fancy little bitch kinda hard to see what he blows back. Now it's a little more robust. Not spicy through the nose, just warmth from the temp increase. More of that wood infused water taste...so I guess...woodish? Still the same flavor. Hitting it harder doesn't really impress me, so I'll go back to being more fancy. Halfway through theres some spice; not spicy as in hot, but spice as in....like a spiced rum...minus the rum. So, spiced wood? Don't make that face, my bums. This young palate and cigar Padowan has as much cigar intellect as my 4th grader would have if he attended a PhD course. Maybe barrel aged tobacco? Once again, no clue. Just did a torch-up to correct the sidetrack. The pic is where I'm currently at. Spiced wood. Hmmm. Not my cup of tea, really. More pronounced wood water taste as the residual in the mouth, not spiced wood water, just plain wood water. Simpletonly speaking (remember, I've got a fancy Davidoff Madison Avenue)...this would be great for the bums who enjoy infusing their river water with their choice of barrel burning lumber, or for the bums who drink their wood chip water when they're prepping for a smoky railroad BBQ. Listen, just drink some damed wood infused water already...and, presto magnifico...you've just experienced the luxurious, and quite fancy (and pricey)...Davidoff...Madison...Avenue. If this was any ol' ten buck, or maybe even fiften dollar stick, she'd be in the graveyard next to me already. I'm getting my $25 bucks worth though. Yes, my bums, you heard correctly.
3/3:
Wood. Wood water. Not much else. The retrohale is becoming a little bit more pleasurable. That spice is there, mostly on the end of the oral exit. The pull has been superb thus far. But the flavor is becoming dull so I give her a torch-up. It's a little better now. Spice is still hintish as best, and to me, this has been the best feature.
Trial By Smoke Judgement:
I'll pass on Davidoff store exclusives. I was unimpressed, and mostly, didn't enjoy it. I'll research if this is common taste quality of Davidoff. Maybe I just don't know how good the cigar really was; as in maybe this profile was meant for a connoseuir who could detect more pleasure? No clue. All know is I didn't enjoy it, and wouldn't have enjoyed it if it were a $5 stick. Pricepoint wise, it was a waste. I am, and it's hard to write this, glad I bought it, because it was what I wanted...at the time and place. I wanted something I couldn't get here. I tried it, and now I know. Hopefully the Plasencia will make up for it. Best part: spice hints.
