Wow, Someone Knows Me
Hoyo 150 Anniversary: Serious Heavyweight or Glass Jaw?
When 455 grains of mega-label and tobacco isn't enough...

Part 1
Thoughtful pre-light description
The almost unpronounceable "Hoyo de Monterrey 150 Edición de Cumpleaños". It's big. It's boxy. It has not one, but two, rings; you could almost write a chapter of War & Peace on the back of the labels. It's dark, beautifully wrapped and capped, the filler is well organized and, except for a couple of chunky disrupting knotted veins it might be magnificent. It smells medium-maduro sweet.
It whispers,, "...i will not disappoint you... ...trust me.... ...trust me....".
Specs are online but the thing is an honest 6" long fatty.
Now I am gonna go smoke this railroad spike and see what its got.

Wow, Someone Knows Me
Part II
Attachment 5749
Punched clean after a mild- to tasteless lick. Prelight draw a little grassy and unpromising; opening puffs bland but a bit of tickle on the snork.
About 2" on, 13:35 hrs, the ash is not giving up and the tastes are moving to, uh, noticeable.
Ash just fell; room note is quite nice and flavor though slightly sweet remains underwhelming. Burn is fairly sharp with a bit of a black edge.
Now 1/3 in and it might be game-on; suddenly more than a middleweight ham and egger.

Wow, Someone Knows Me
Crisp burn and gnarly veins:
Last 1/3 - 14:20 hrs
Still burning razor sharp, solid ash, great construction and making plenty of smoke. Problem with the smoke is this - it doesn't float my boat. The flavor just never quite arrives. It's an ok cigar but not my profile. While better at the very end it still lacks those things I like: floral, chocolate, coffee and/or spice. I''d prefer a maduro Oliva bundled toro or any of a dozen cheap habanos. The last good non-habano I smoked, incidentally, was a blind taste test knockout, an Oliva V Lancero*, 2013.
Middleweight, soft jaw. I cannot recommend the HdM 150 Anni. which I am currently nubbing. Not bad at the last 2" if your have tough fingertips.
* for your reference
6 7/8 x 38-40. Razor sharp burn, no touch ups, nice ash. First snork was quite a strong surprise up my nose after a two day layoff. It started out as tobacco, smart and leathery, but before halfway went to a very mellow, woody sweetness. The last third is pungent, sweet cocoa and spicey without any sharp or sour notes. This is yet another very good cigar. I will think on it before making a fool of myself - as yet I can't say what is is but I can say it is very good. This is the best panatela I ever smoked in every respect.

Bummin' Around
I've smoked 2 so far and have a similar opinion of it. I generally like most HDMs...and I'd rather have a Dark Knight than this.
