Bummin' Around
Gurkha Beauty
Gurkha Beauty 6.5"X56 Burn Time : 1hr 30min
Wrapper : Ecuador Connecticut
Filler : Honduran
Body : Light-Medium Strength : Light
Prelight : This is a large, heavy, densely packed stick. It has a light tobacco aroma and a smooth light brown smooth wrapper with invisible seams.
1/3 : It has a good, easy draw and opens up with some mild nutty flavored smoke. Has a thin mouth feel. There's almost no finish at all, and what finish there is is very light. 10 minutes in I'm getting just a general mild tobacco. Body is light-medium at this point, more on the light side. Good strong ash that holds on for the full 1/3 with a perfect burn line.
2/3 : Yawn..I'm happy this is an afternoon stick for me and I'm with a bud chatting because it's boring as hell up to this point. The draw is mostly mild tobacco flavor, little nut. The finish is still very short. Past the halfway point I get a distinct woody tone. I don't particularly like woody flavors too much but I'm happy as hell for the transition. There's a nutty finish 50min in, and I can get slight cream on retrohale. There's more smoke now and hence more flavor that I'm getting, medium body.
3/3 : Smoke opens up now, ends with a strong woody note and woody finish. Remarkably, this Gurkha had a very good burn line, no complaints on the construction.
Overall : There was a good 20 minutes in towards the end here that I really enjoyed, other than that it's a boring stick. A lot of it was just too mild for me, but it did burn well and could be a solid yard 'gar. However..ci.com has these 5packs going for $128...LOL. I got these in a sampler and it came out to $3.50 for the cigar, which is about the upper limit I'd pay for another one.
