    Guekha Centurian

    [IMG][/IMG]

Gurkha Centurian 6"X60 Double Perfecto - Rested 1.5 months at 62%

    Burn time : 1hr 40min

    Medium Body - Light Strength

    Wrapper: Connecticut
    Filler: Cuban seed DR grown

Prelight : This double perfecto has a light tobacco aroma with a light brown splotchy wrapper. Pretty ugly up close but from far looks like a decent stick with the interesting shape (good from far but far from good..lol). Has a very light pack.

1/3 : I light it without cutting any off from the torpedoed end, and surprisingly there's a very easy draw right from the start. Lots of smoke coming off, with a creamy nutty flavor and a short finish at first. Not especially creamy textured smoke, on the thin side but tastes good. A little bit in a light tobacco flavor mixes in. It's a very slow burner, 40 minutes in I'm just getting past the first third. Up to this point it's been burning fine, but that will change soon enough...

2/3 : The body has worked its way up to a medium, where it will stay for the rest of the cigar. The burn is very slow, and halfway in I'm getting nuttiness and slight pepper, the creaminess has gone mostly. Starting at the halfway point the burn gets REAL crazy and wonky on me. The fattest part of this cigar puts off a great amount of smoke but has difficulty burning straight, from the halfway point on I had to touch it up 6-7 times.

3/3 : The flavors are consistent, with a new addition of woody flavor towards the end, with the nuttiness still there. The burn is pretty damn bad. I am smoking it outside in the wind, but this is obviously a construction issue. No strength at all even by the very end, which is great by me. From 2/3 on the finish lasts for a long time, light and creamy and very enjoyable.

Overall : Would be a great daytime smoke if it burned right. Consistent flavor profile throughout the stick and not very complex or bold, but would be good on an empty stomach before dinner and/or while working on the garden/fishing/etc. where you don't want a very complex stick. Would try again but won't go out of my way to get any more.

I found it to be enjoyable, not my favorite but a solid Gurkha at the right price.

    Thanks for the review.

Overall I am not a fan of Gurkha, but a couple of years ago, I had Gurkha that was very good, slightly sweet, very creamy, coat your mouth like butter and a slight hint of pepper on the retrohale. I kept the band, but my wife threw it away by accident and so I went on a hunt for a few months trying all the Gurkas that looked like what I had, all disappointing. Everyone keeps telling me that I am describing the Beauty.....anywhoo off track now...I have heard good things about the Centurian and I think I will give this a try.

I remember trying the Beauty, but it was ROTT and this was before I knew anything about proper RH storage and resting times. I look forward to your review.
