Cigar Reveiw - My Uzi Weighs a Ton "Bait Fish"

Drew Estate – My Uzi Weighs a Ton "Bait Fish"

    Vitola: Corona “Bait Fish”
    Length: 4.0″
    Ring Gauge: 44
    Wrapper: San Andreas Negro Wrapper
    Binder: Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade
    Filler: Brazilian Mata Fina
    Pairing: Frosttop Rootbeer

So after listening to Zeede sing the praises of the MUWAT Bait Fish, I have been itching for an opportunity to try one. I picked one up the other day and today fortune smiled on me and I got a long lunch. I have been a fan of Drew Estate for some time. Early on I enjoyed a few of their Acid line but was really a huge fan of their Java line for a desert cigar and then of the Undercrowns. This size is perfect for a lunchtime cigar and I'm hoping the pairing with rootbeer will be a good one.

Fit and Finish: Nice dark wrapper on this little beauty. I have always been attracted to the maduro wrappers and so gravitate to darker wrappers by default. As time goes on, though, I am finding that I enjoy the lighter wrappers every bit as much. It is relatively smooth and has an amazing aroma on the cold sniff. Just dark and tobaccoey...yum.

Draw: When I first switched to v-cuts I worried about how the smaller vitolas would do with it but it has always given me great results. This time is no exception. Perfect draw, full of cocoa and pepper on the cold draw. I take a couple more cold draws because it's so tasty. Really, I am thrilled to have a lunchtime cigar.

Toast/Light: Great smoke production right out of the gate and a very easy toasting. No need to puff to get it going, the toasting works perfectly with a nice even ash. Very similar to the Oliva Serie G Special G with ease of lighting. I am pretty sure the smaller ring gauge is responsible.

First third: Right out of the gate I a rewarded with excellent smoke production and strong cocoa and espresso flavors with a bit of pepper. The flavor is very full and the cocoa really lingers on the aftertaste. Not much in the way of cedar but great taste.

Second Third: Razor sharp burn lines and the cocoa and espresso continue but nuts are making an appearance and the pepper has taken a back seat. Copious smoke on every draw and it is pairing perfectly with the rootbeer. At this point I am wondering why I don't have a lunch cigar every day.

Final Third: The cocoa, espresso and nuts persist and the pepper comes back for the finale. The smoke, which I have mentioned is outstanding is also incredibly creamy. It just coats your mouth and lingers. This one was just the right size for lunch and was incredible all the way around.

Final Thoughts: I know that DE may not be everyone's cup of tea but I have really enjoyed everything I've gotten from them. Yes, over time, I have lost my taste for the Acid line, but I do still enjoy the smell of their resting smoke and I still love the Javas and even the Tabak Especials. This cigar is not like any of their infused product. It is just a delicious cigar all in its own right. The creamy smoke, the cocoa and espresso and even the pepper kick are great. It's different than the Oliva Special G in that it's more intense and has more pepper but honestly I thoroughly enjoyed them both. This is one I would love to have a nice little stash of sitting in the humidor for those times a short smoke is available. I would definitely recommend this one to everyone I know. Zeede, thanks for the recommendation my friend.

    Total smoking time: 45 minutes

Glad you liked it! It was the first cigar I had where the creaminess and the smoke just coated my mouth.

My local B&M does "Buy 3/Get 2 Free" on Tuesdays where they pick a few brands this deal applies to. If Drew Estate ever gets on that list I will be trying out some of the other vitolas in this blend for sure!

Just had another one of these last night...even better than the last one. This is one great little cigar! Outstanding flavor, draw, burn...everything just made me sure I need to pick up a box of them.
