I know, I know - yet another post from me about these cigars. Once again I will explain my connection to them. When I was first testing the waters of this hobby, I bought three cigars at BevMo - a Macanudo Hampton Court, a Short Story, and a Curly Head. I smoked the Mac first. Terrible disappointment. I figured if all cigars were that bland, there was really no point in wasting the time and money on an activity with potential health risks.

So next I smoked the Curly Head. It was a little harsh, but at least it had enough flavor to be interesting. The Short Story sealed the deal for me, and is still one of my very favorite cigars.

But there is still something about Curly Heads ... I like that they are made from "leftover" tobacco trimmings. According to the Fuente folks (in an email conversation) there is no truth to the story that Curly Heads are thrown together from whatever happens to be swept off the floor the day before. There is (again, according to an email conversation) an actual formula for the blend. But they are made from leftover trimmings.

Some years ago I bought a few Curly Heads with the intent of seeing how some rest might affect their admittedly "imperfect" taste. 6 months, a year, 18 months - not really much improvement.

5 years and 9 months later I still had one left ...



It was actually pretty good. Burned nicely - only went out when I neglected it, and no canoeing, tunneling, etc. The smoke smelled great - real old-timey cigar smoke. The taste was a pretty much even split of wood and leather, with some creamy notes. Not a bit of earthiness, so it wasn't nearly as complex as would have been nice, but it was still pretty tasty. Burned it to the nub and enjoyed it all the way.

So, I'll probably pick up a few every now and again, and throw them in the coolidor for a good nap before i break them out for a trip down memory lane.
