Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 Silver Review

    11/6/2014

Cigar: Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 Silver
    Size: Robusto Corto, 4.7”x52
    MSRP: $6.50
    Strength: Medium
    Wrapper: Criollo
    Origin: Nicaragua

Prelight: The Silver has a slightly oily wrapper with very minimal veins and almost invisible seams. The wrapper smells sweet and floral, with notes of wood, while the densely packed foot has scents of wood and cocoa. After punching the cap, the resistance in the draw is not too tight and I am picking up a dusty wood flavor in the cold draw. There seems to even be hints of dried fruit.

1/3: The cigar starts with some spicy white pepper complemented with sweet cream. The draw now seems a little tighter than I prefer, and through some molestation of the cigar, I realize that the head and shoulders are nearly rock hard. It’s not impossible to get a good pull, so I continue hoping it’ll loosen back up. As the first third comes to an end, I start to taste some woodiness in the profile.

2/3: The cigar is still mostly cream, and the slight wood I was tasting has made way for a slight earthiness and nuttiness. The ash lasts almost to the halfway point, and immediately following its fall, wood comes back into the mix.

3/3: The cream fades away in the final third, and the remaining flavors are wood and nuts. The burn gets a little hot towards the nub, and the draw continues to get tighter, but the profile doesn’t get bitter. Instead, I finish the cigar tasting nothing but delicious toasted nuts.

Overall: An excellent cigar by Torano that hits all the right marks. There was a slight issue with the roll, being a bit tight, but I tend to think this may just be a flaw with this one stick. I enjoyed the flavors, and how they evolved through this short stick. I am definitely giving this one another try soon.

I enjoy these too. You can find the big (6" x 58-ish) perfectos on cbid for a steal every once in a while and I've nabbed up quite a few.

    Nice review!
