Wrapper: Brazilian
Origin: Honduras

Prelight: The VR is a good looking cigar; a smooth, oily wrapper with only a couple very small veins. The foot band is cool, and I am not sure if it is just an optical illusion, but the foot appears to be a thinner gauge than at the regular band. There is very slight tooth on the Brazilian maduro wrapper, which smells like musty cedar with a sprinkling of cocoa. The foot is very chocolaty and floral. The resistance on the cold draw is right where I like it to be and chocolate is the fore-runner with a tinge of cedar.

1/3: A hit of black pepper at the start, but quickly the VR becomes coffee, cream and a touch of cocoa. Like a peppery mocha. The ash is solid and the burn is straight. Despite strong wind gusts, the ash hangs on for over an inch.

2/3: A little taste of cedar is added to the mix in the second third, and I notice a slight split developing in the wrapper right where the second third meets the final third. The cedar flavors increase as the second third progresses, and by the time the burn line reaches the split, the cigar is all cedar with a little bit of hay.

3/3: The final third tastes like charred wood, but there is also a slight sweetness, like dried fruit. I’m starting to feel a little nic kick in the belly. The cigar also ends quicker than I thought it would; just under one hour for this toro.

Overall: Pretty good cigar. Not much in the way of complexity, but the sweetness at the very end was a pleasant surprise. The construction was close to top-notch. There was a split, but it did not affect the burn. And, given the wind, this cigar burned excellently. Not a bad cigar, but I wouldn’t pay more than $4 for it.
