Cigar: Camacho Havana H3
Size: Corona, 4.2"x44
MSRP: $4.45
Strength: Medium-Full
Wrapper: Criollo
Origin: Honduras
Prelight: A nice, natural colored wrapper, that is smooth and is slightly mottled. The scent of the wrapper is floral while the foot is a combination of floral aromas and chocolate. The cold draw is slightly tight with a chocolaty, cedar flavor.
1/3: The H3 starts sweet, with sugary cream being the main flavor. There is a hint of cedar adding a little bit of spice to the mix. The ash appears (here’s that word again) cubanesque, and reminds me of my favorite cigar. As the first third burns, I get a very earthy taste coming through, and this third ends tasting like creamy dirt with a cedar spill stuck in it.
2/3: The second third is still earthy cedar, although the cream has faded. There is also a bit of leather, which grows to overpower the cedar, making the mid-point all earth and leather. But, by the end of the second third, cedar rejoins the party that is happening in my mouth, using my tongue as a dance floor.
3/3: The final third of this cigar is pure cedar and leather, but there is also just a hint of baking spices that leave my lips and tongue tingling. The burn has been exceptional throughout this corona-sized stogie.
Overall: Hands down the best Camacho I have smoked. Even though it is small in stature, the flavors are not. They transition well and leave the impression that this economically-priced cigar is quite complex underneath its simple wrapper. It combines the sweet earthiness one finds in a Dominican cigar, with the woodiness of a Nicaraguan, giving it a very typical (yet multifaceted) Honduran profile. Which it should, being a puro and all.
