Rhymes with "seed"
Arturo Fuente 8-5-8 Flor Fina Corona
I'm baaaaack! And here with a review of my first Arturo Fuente cigar.
This size is a 6" x 47 RG according to the stats, but I swear this thing wasn't a full six inches long. 5 7/8" at best. Oh well.
I also thought I had purchased a maduro, but this was not dark enough to be a maduro, and had none of the maduro flavor characteristics. Oh well, that's what you get for buying a cigar from Total Wine. Someone probably mixed the labels or someone picked this up and put it back in the wrong box.
The wrapper is a pleasant light brown color, halfway between leather and milk chocolate. There are no visible seams, and only a few prominent veins. The wrapper has some cracks near the foot, and the head cracks when I punch it. The wrapper is also quite toothy, but the "teeth" are very small.
Lighting it up I get immediate notes of sweetness! Not vanilla, maybe honey, I'm not sure. It's joined with a roasted coffee note as well as tobacco. The ash is a medium-light gray. The spice on the retro-hale is light to medium.
1" in, hints of leather and earthiness begin to develop. I also note that this cigar produces a LOT of smoke. The spice on the retrohale has increased dramatically to medium-strong, but still no spiciness in my mouth and throat. Also, lots of cracks have opened up in the wrapper. Hopefully these won't cause any problems. Oops, I forgot to take a picture before I started. Oh well, better late than never!
As the first 1/3 ends, the sweetness has faded away. Too bad, I really liked it.
No notable flavor transitions in the middle 1/3 of the cigar. I burned through all of the cracks in the wrapper with no ill effects.
80 minutes in and there is only a nub. I haven't nubbed a cigar in awhile, so while this cigar wasn't amazing, it was solid for its price point, and a nice relaxing time.

Afuente doesn't make a bad cigar(minus the candela) You get what you pay for. I'd much rather have an 858 than some cigars that are $2-$3 more. Also great for aging. Good review Cameron
