Like last year The Angel’s Anvil from Crowned Heads is an exclusive to TAA Retailers. The cigar which is a limited edition is made at Tabacalera La Alianza in the Dominican Republic. The factory which is owned by Ernesto Perez Carrillo made last year’s as well.

This year, the cigar is based on the first ever limited edition from Crowned Heads which was the Mule Kick that was produced at the same factory. The cigar is said to be stronger than last year’s release.

The Look: There are two things that look different this year compared to last. One the band has changed to colors of red, cream and black and two the size has changed from a Churchill to a toro. The cigar has a nice milk chocolate color to it with some significant veins. It is oily and rolled to perfection.

The Notes: The cold draw of the cigar has similarities to anise and cedar, while the aroma off the foot is smooth, creamy and full of cedar. Once we toast the foot of the cigar the initial draw serves up some butterscotch.

Smoking our way into the first third of the cigar there is a nice almonds note that really takes hold of the palate. As the cigar progresses there is some caramel notes and wood. The base profile of the cigar is sweet, but there is strength not the finish and through the nose.

The second third sees a citrus and sugar note introduced to the cigar, almost like an orange slice candy which slowly transitions into cinnamon at the half way point of the cigar. The cigars have a walnut finish.

The last third to the TAA Angel’s Anvil 2015 holds on to a bit of cinnamon and there is some brown sugar present as will with elements of almonds and cedar on the finish. There is spice through the nose, but the almond is also present on the aroma of the cigar.

The Burn: The cigar had a little bit of an uneven burn that I touched up slightly in the beginning, after the touch up the cigar burned perfectly with a thin carbon line and a light ash that has some dark spots to it. The draw was perfect and the cigar remained lit throughout.

The Finish: With back to back limited edition releases this week one of them stands above the other and for me it was The Angel’s Anvil. I enjoyed the kick of the 2015 edition over the 2014 edition and it brought some strength to the table that for me the Las Calaveras was missing. It’s was a great balance of strength and complexity that will have me adding a box to my collection this weekend.
