Royal Bum
2004 Carlos Torano Exodus Perfecto
Another compliments of
@Ljutic
Country of Origin: Honduras
Wrapper Color: Dark Natural
Wrapper type: Unknown Nicaraguan
Filler: Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua
Binder: Honduran
Vitola: Box Pressed Perfecto
Humidimeter Reading: 65%
Environment:
Temperature: 79 degrees
Humidity: 30%
Wind: Intermittent 5 to 10mph
A 5.75x50 lightly box pressed perfecto with a fine, smooth texture, smooth but very short cap and a hard bunch.
Wrapper type, filler and binder are unsure and based on more recent Exodus 1959 Perfecto information which was all I could find.
Even burn, short, conical coal, white, strong ash and a very tight draw.
Good smoke volume with enough effort, and strong, fragrant aroma.
In the first third, it was of ample richness, perfect balance and generous flavors of earthy, woody and floral tastes and a nice floral finish, with a medium body and mild strength.
No sweetness, burn on the tongue or saltiness, but after the first third, a pronounced bitterness and sharpness developed.
Overall of poor character and just poor in general, with a final score of 71 out of 100.
The biggest factors that brought down the score were the very tight draw, pronounced bitterness and pronounced sharpness.
After the first third, the bitterness and sharpness overpowered any of the original excellent flavor.
Being a big Torano fan, I had high hopes, but ultimately couldn’t even finish it. Finally gave up towards the end of the second third.
I friggin love cigars

Well there you go. More proof that they can't all be winners. I was never a big Torano fan, but our local store was a big fan and always had good stocks. I picked up several boxes from him over the years because it's good to support your local store whenever you can. I bought these because of the shape more than any other reason.
You've got another so after the bad experience fades from memory you can give it another try if you wish to do so. Otherwise, just chuck it now and be done with them.

Very true. Every maker has the occasional dud, or maybe this particular blend just isn't suited for aging, which is always a possibility. Not everything ages well.
I love Toranos. Sadly they somewhat recently discontinued 2 of my favorites. Fortunately there are still some in stock in some places so I was able to get a box of each before they disappear forever.
This is the first Torano I haven't just loved, but again, maybe they were better when young.
Definitely plan to try the second one just in case I just got a one-off bad one, so will definitely give them a second chance.
