Checking in from SC
After the generous bomb and nudge down the slope from
@Lynn
I figured I should introduce myself on this side of the fence. Been smoking cigars for a little over a year now the pipe side always interested me just wasn't ready to take the plunge. Guess that doesn't matter now since Lynn sent me a cob and few samples of tobacco. I haven't tried it yet cuz I'm not quite sure what to do, but I'm trying to figure it out now. I've lurked on this side a bit and love the restores and DIY stuff, I can see myself getting into that, looking forward to figuring this thing out and getting know some of you don't post on the cigar side.
I don't have emotions, and sometimes that makes me very sad.

Indeed so Most indeededly
As rewarding as a good cigar is I've found more often than not, a good burning bowl in a great smoking pipe to beat it. Welcome!

Will do.
Out of the 3 samples he sent what would recommend for a good starter bowl. Dunhill early morning, Mclellan 2015, or Mississippi river special

I'd go with Early Morning Pipe.
- Dry it for half an hour on a paper plate until it springs back apart when you pinch it
- Don't pack too tight
- Sip slowly and pay attention to the flavors
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Early morning pipe is good. A nice, mild English.
McClelland 2015 is a solid vaper.
I've never had the Mississippi River.
I bowl of tobacco doesn't take near a long as a cigar. I say load up the 2015, give it a smoke. Then load up the Early Morning and give it a smoke.
You'll probably lean toward one or the other (this will change on a regular basis, so don't rule out one style based on your preference from a single day).
But I'd pick the one you lean toward now to practice on, as you try to improve your packing, and smoking technique. That way you can pick up changes in the flavor, burn, etc.
