Welcome trey! im dabbling on the cigar side lol. you could but It might leave a ghost flavor in it. Cobs are cheap 6-7$ Should have diff pipes for diff kinds of tobaccos. Ideally, you want different pipes for the different styles of tobacco. But for just getting started (especially with a cob), it is fine to smoke the two back to back. Just make sure you don't start with the English. The next one you smoke after the English may be a little ghosted, but a bowl or two will get rid of it.
For briar pipes, you do want to let them rest. Corn cobs pips can take more of a beating, and they are cheap.
Don't worry about missing subtleties of the tobacco. Work of technique. You'll get the "broad strokes" of the flavors, and that is fine.
Once you are more comfortable with the pipe process, then you can start down the slippery slope of find what kind of tobacco you like.

I will give that a shot. I spent a good bit of the day yesterday reading up and watching videos on packing and lighting techniques.
