What went wrong here...

Smoked two bowls today, one bad the other good. Both out of the same pipe with same tobacco amount, pack, etc. More or less same age tobacco, stored the same way.

First one was Dunhill Mixture 965. I'd previously liked it a lot but hadn't smoked it in awhile. This time it bit terribly and was an overall unpleasant smoke.

About 10 hours later, same pipe, smoked a personal blend of 3 pinches of RLP-6 + 1 pinch of Stokkebye Turkish (for a better burn) + 1 partial-pinch of P&C Blending Perique (just 'cause I luurve perique). Smoked beautifully, no bite.

Both had a small amount of gurgle but the pipe, a bent bulldog, has a stinger so I'm pretty used to that. I'm just not sure what happened. If there's one tobaccy I never thought I'd have a problem with it would be 965!

Was it the first time to smoke either of these blends in this pipe?

Does this pipe have a typical rotation with a specific genre of tobacco?

What were you doing when you smoked both bowls. Maybe an activity that took too much of your attention caused the tobacco to burn?

dunno but the 965 might have been too moist. Nothing like an overly moist tobacco to burn bad, taste awful and bite IMO. Seems it'll need more drying if you're outside smoking in cool weather too.

What were you drinking with it.Had you cleaned your bowl before packing.Could there have been a foreign substance in the bowl,salt alcohol?
Could you have had oil or soap on our hands.Maybe you were next door to someone smoking Mixture #79 ?
I myself have learned the hard way to make sure not to leave any dottle, the stall tar and tobacco will ruin any smoke.
