Cool Wellllll as a new piper

Thanks again to Rob for the pipes. Here's what I've tried a few bowls of (bulk baccy from my B&M):

    Viking
    Doublegate
    Georgia Cream
    Sweet Southern Ella
    Parker's Pleasure (store owner's blend)

I like the Viking, Doublegate and Parker's Pleasure. I dunno if bulk baccy is just named at the store or what, any other recommendations? I'm prolly gonna grab a few cobs or basket pipes from the local store so I won't burn out my one pipe.

Join Noob exchange for pipes. If I didn't have so much to try, I would have signed up already.

More than most likely, all these bulk blends are re-named Lane Limited tobaccos. I would ask the shop owner what his bulk blends are and what their stock blend names are. I would bet one of the ones you enjoy is "1Q."

Unfortunately, not knowing what those house blends are or what is in them, makes it pretty hard to recommend much...My stand by recommendations for new pipe smokers are always Carter Hall, Prince Albert, Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake, Orlik Golden Slices, Dunhill Early Morning Pipe, McClelland's Frog Morton, and Rattary's Red Rapparre.

Once I know exactly what you like, I can pin-point more blends for you based off of style.

Cobs, Cobs, and more Cobs. You can never have too many cobs my friend. I have plenty of briars, and I still reach for my cobs more often than not.

A local B&M in my town has a wide variety of bulks (none of which satisfied me). After a few visits and repeated pestering, one of the proprietors allowed me access to the cooler where their "in-store blender" selected his base tobaccos from, and there were all Lane Limited and Peter Stokkebye tobacco, all with the original P&C stickers still on. Knowing I could make better blends myself, I just bought the stuff straight from P&C and starting making some of my own blends, and cheaper.
Hint: PS Luxury Bullseye Flake (rubbed out) +35% Latakia makes a delicious English blend.

Wow, I am shocked that they bought PS too, at least that is some quality tobacco.

I am not a fan of PG dumped Lane...

    @Will46r

this guy knows of what he speaks, I will add another one that I just love Dunhill Nightcap.

also like @Branzig said get cobs, find what you like before you start smoking it in briars, you may not notice now but later you will find sometimes you can taste old tobaccos you smoked in briars.

It's the Noobie Sampler Trade for Pipes, a Sticky in the General Pious Discussion.

It is a great idea. You'll get try try a bunch of good tobaccos.

I'm not a fan of Lane or Sutliff. P.S. has some nice offerings but also their share of goopers (a few of which I like regardless)
For you aro lovers, first stop I would recommend is Dan tobacco. Hands down the best aros around in my not so humble opinion. Their non-aros are excellent as well.
