True Derelict
Thank You
On my 40th birthday, two dear friends, Fred and Monte, took me on a half day trip on the Lou II party boat out of Freeport (NY) to fish for fluke. Fred had never caught a fish before (he had tried) so that was my focus and when the morning proved void (for all) I persisted that we would simply go out for the afternoon trip and I refused to leave the boat. Fred would have his fish.
Monte had driven us to Freeport and my refusal left him perplexed. He made a call (pay phone) and said that he needed to leave and my continued refusal left him apoplexed (is this a word?), threatening to abandon us and not come back. When Fred desisted, I gave in. We returned to my house and I waved to Fred and Monte as they drove off. I opened the door and to a thundering chorus of, "Surprise!". Monte and Fred were just parking the car.
Last year, Monte and I took my granddaughter, Kaiden, shopping on my 60th birthday. Store after store either didn't carry or was out of stock of the Doc McStuffins PJs that were, apparently, de rigueur for all 2-3 year old kids. Finally Monte said that he called (cell phone) a Target (store) that had and would hold the required item. With a happy grandchild we headed back to my house and I, again, opened the door to a cheer (smaller) of "Surprise!", and my succinct (sic) reply was, "You got me again!" Turns out that Monte was wandering away, as we shopped, to call stores to insure that they didn’t have the PJs, until preparations for the party were complete.
This past Friday, I was at a park with Kaiden and afterwards we met some family for dinner. In the morning my wife gave me a box that had arrived the day before that I had no expectation of receiving and thought that it may have inadvertently come to me. It was well and strongly packed, secured with tough tape (duct) and I'm glad that I exercised caution although I admit that I continued gingerly in case there should be some escaping powders. Whatever it was lay face down and looked like an easel. I wasn't far off and the unpacked product was surely worth the wait. "You got me again, again!"
I delayed writing my thanks to my friends here on Cigar Bum so that I could cogently express my thoughts. I also wanted to add a picture and with me that's a capital expenditure of time and effort. So humble as my photo is, please know that I am most grateful and thankful. It's a beautiful memento that I'll cherish.

Nice story. Thanks for sharing that, Pete.
Debt is the weapon used to conquer and enslave societies and interest is it's ammunition.
