Surprise at a regular old tobacco store.

I usually keep a couple of cheap pipes and a pouch of an OTC blend like CH or PA in my truck so I can have a quick smoke at lunch. I was running low on truck tobacco today so on my lunch break I stop at a tobacco store here in town to grab some.
As I'm looking in the case where it is I notice they have a few tins in there.
Mostly it was CAO flavored stuff, some Cult tins and such. But there in the front was 2 tins of Dunhill Nightcap.
Now I do the vast majority of my pipe tobacco purchasing online because Arkansas has a 68% tax on it. My local shop starts their tins off at $17 and it goes up from there. So that's what I was expecting.
I ask him how much the tins are just for the heck of it. He says that the Dunhill ones are the most expensive but he'll check.

I said, "Yeah, give me both of them."

He looked surprised. I guess most people who only smoke OTC stuff think that's expensive for pipe tobacco.
That's not far off of online prices and once you figure shipping, its better.

I never expected to find premium pipe tobacco at that hole in the wall tobacco store. I don't know how they're making any money at that price with our taxes.

I was pretty happy and will be checking back in soon.

Already 2 years on them.

There's a tobacconist here in VA that carries Esoterica and usually has a fair amount of Penzance on hand. It was $4 something an ounce when I first started buying it, then it quickly went up to $6 something. Still a good deal
