    Substitutes

Thinking I usually like grabbing a few tins of christmas blends every year I also want to grab some others to cellar. I had a sample of SG full virginia flake sent to me a while back and really enjoyed it. Thinking maybe I'd add a tin or 2 sometime to an order but it seems they're always sold out.

Any one ever find a similar tin or bulk substitute for FVF?

Any other good tin/bulk substitutes that are as good or similar to another more expensive or hard to find blends?

If you haven't tried Newminster 400 you ought to.
I find it bitey fresh but it mellows nicely after a year ot two behind glass.
It's dirt cheap for a good Va flake too.

Oh, and PS Navy flake is very good too with some age on it. Not a straight Va as there's a touch of perique in it but the perique is light and the Va is quite nice. I pulled out some I've had squirreled away for who knows how long and it was like smoking candy. Don't know how old it is but it's decidedly darker than it is fresh. I put up some Luxury Twist Flake too but it's too soon to see how that one ages.

Actually was just looking at the newminster last night. Read some good reviews so think I'll add some on. I haven't tried the navy flake, i do really enjoy their bullseye flake so think I'll toss some of that navy flake in for a bit of aging.

Wessex Dark Flake is essentially a clone of FVF.

I was completely out of FVF recently myself.
I got on the email list at smokingpipes, and when they got it in, I ordered a 250g box.
Usually, I just buy a tin or two of a specific tobacco, but since it was out of stock for so long I bought more than usual.

Sign up if you haven't already. It's how I got some. It was gone within a few days.

I planned on doing that too when I got their email, just happened they got it in stock when I wasn't able to make a purchase and were out before payday.
