Brian - unforch for our discussion here, "bite" doesn't always affect everyone the same. Also, technique has something to do with it - smoking slowly (cooly) usually helps. Also, it helps to dry the tobacco out, moreso than you might think necessary. & in general, the non-aros usually bite me less than the goopy aros. & another thing - as you smoke a pipe more, your tongue and hard palate get less sensitive.
You oughta know not to stand by the window, somebody see you up there.

VERY good point.
Definitely try as many different kinds and blends of tobacco as you can.
When I first started, there were so many burley blends that sounded exactly like what I was looking for. But Virginias and Vapers ended up being what worked and tasted best to me.

The Virginia's & VaPers "sound" like they are going to be in my wheelhouse, but I'm definitely going to take your exclaimed suggestion and try them all!
